Recently picked up the iPad Pro 2018 1TB, and was just wondering how many other members have also got the 1TB versions?

No way will I fill it up, but I had the money burning a hole in my pocket, so thought it can be my New Years treat ;)

1TB is major overkill unless you’re a professional photographer or editor and needed tons of space for raw footage file transfer

I keep 500+ GB movies on mine. No data usage or slow downs watching films. It’s perfect media device, screen magnificent. Just download via home WiFi and have 50 movies to choose from.

I hate ever considering limits of storage with 1TB I never do. Got that instead of LTE version.

My next upgrade will be a 1tb (or whatever is highest by that time). When I got my iPP, 256gb was the highest. That got filled immediately, mostly with videos and music. Like people have said, storage this size (and even larger) can be easily filled if you have an extensive/high-quality media library and you want/need to keep it stored locally, or you create/work with media as a digital artist, filmmaker, animator, photographer, composer, etc.

what I dont like about the ITB -is icloud wanting to backup all that space. So I turned it off. I have all my working files on aloud. I do have everything backed up to several hard drives (multiple copies).

Considering I have the 64gb and still have 25gb left, I have no idea why anyone would need that much storage!

That’s like saying, “I have a small hatchback car and barely fill the trunk space, I have no idea why someone would need to drive a van.”

Believe it or not, some people use their devices and have different needs than what you do.

Everyone has their own individual use case scenario.

I have a 1 TB, I use more than half the space, I’m not a professional photographer or editor, I like all my content on my device to enjoy whenever I want to without counting on the cloud to download or stream when Data may be extremely slow or inaccessible like a plane or my office. I also plan to own this iPad for a long time and can see myself filling this up to 3/4 of the storage.

I've tended to have a 512GB iPad as I do a lot of Photography and especially now I can download my Lightroom CC images for offline editing, I'm quite tempted by the 1TB - its a fair bit dearer but the way I see it this iPad Pro is unlikely to warrant me upgrading yearly like I've tended to do in the past..

Course you don’t, for you the 64 GB fills your need. Lot’s more things 1 TB useful for than editing videos. That’s why 1 TB perfect for me. Nice to have choices, no right or wrong about it.

Touché true!

I can only speak for myself but I’ve done max storage and can always say I never fill or or even watch the videos filling up a 512gb ssd on my 2016 MacBook. I was like screw it im getting 128gb for the pro.

Slightly OT but if you say wanted to use it for extra storage of files, a bit like a server then that seems a potential use for 1TB but HOW do you back it up, surely extremely slowly?

If Apple allowed access to files & folders I would purchase a 1TB model in a heartbeat.
However, as we know there is more chance in growing cheese on the moon than Apple opening iOS, I’ll stick with my low size storage model.

I have the 1TB 12.9” since I use it for photos, lots of TV series, lots of apps including large adventure games and lots of video podcasts in HD. I was completely filling my 512GB iPad Pro and could have continued with 512GB since I’d just remove some shows or podcasts to load other ones on, but with 1TB and only having had my iPad for a few weeks, I am yet to get close to filling it and don’t think that I will fill it for some time unless I purposely go out of my way to store more TV shows, movies or podcasts than I really need. Every couple of years, we take an overseas trip of around 6 weeks and I’d load it fully up with shows before the trip just to have choice of shows during flights or lazy evenings. I know that I’d never have the time to watch all of the shows in a 6 week trip, but it gives me options to choose what I feel like watching. I admit that 512GB would be perfectly fine for me, but I was excited by 1TB anyway and I’ve already gone over the 512GB storage on it and don’t have to think about removing anything for some time to come. I’m very happy to have 1TB available for local iPad storage.

just out of curiosity from where are yall downloading movies and shows? (iTunes, Netflix?)

I d/l mine from iTunes, as it’s more convenient as it goes straight onto the iPad, compared to downloading from those dodgy websites, then you have to transfer from your PC / Mac which I obviously condone

My 1 TB iPad Pro seems to backup just fine. Have a little over 600 MB on board. Doesn’t backup just incorporate changes from last backup because mine does not take but a few minutes. I do have about 290 Mbps WiFi, maybe that helps as well.

Do you mean 600 GB or 600 MB? I doubt as little at 600 MB...I guess if you are paying Apple for large iCloud storage, you can fit 600 GB without warnings, but the rest of us that pay 99 cents a month...that won't fly.

600 GB
I don’t think iCloud stores every bit. Doesn’t it store markers. Like why store same movie thousands of times for all users. Movie already in cloud, just store fact you have it downloaded to iPad. When restoring it would download from original source.

Now if you have unique drawings those would be uploaded to cloud. I have 200 GB iCloud account. Seems to be backing up my iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPhone XS Max with room to spare. Think it’s only $1.99 a month if I remember right.
