March 2017 will be the one year anniversary. Possibly during the March Keynote, as it's been rumored for three iPads debuting in various sizes. Otherwise during the September 2017 Keynote.
Ok thank you. So not until next year. That is good.
I have a iPad Air 2 right now and plan on upgrading to a iPad Pro 2 9.7 inch then!
Air 2 is definitely fast for most tasks however the Pro 9.7 does have a noticeable boost in speed especially for gaming. Honestly the next big performance iPad(like the Air 2 was) will be the Pro 3.I would definitely wait until we see Apple offers in March 2017. The Air 2 is fairly fast in terms of speed with the 9.7 Pro.

I'm not a gamer on the iPad Air 2 and cannot contest to that. But in comparison for videos and multi-tasking, the Air 2 appeared very similar in speed to the Pro 9.7.
Neither am I but even in day to day use the Pro is a good bit quicker to load things. Now I say that but bear in mind the Air 2 is still quick, just the Pro is even quicker and it is noticeable. I notice my Air 2 will have seconds of complete system lag if I close safari and the page had a ad on it, something bogs down the whole system for a couple seconds after closing safari, I guess it just has to put it into memory, so it's bogged for a few seconds. Anyone with a Pro have that issue. That's the only time I notice lag, that or some app hogging all the memory, I know google Slides can bog it down if you have to many slides in a presentation 15 is about its limit. Other then memory related slow downs the Air 2 does great.Same here not a mobile gamer.

In safari, on MacRumors specifically there's a BestBuy ad that bogs it down. Others seem fineI see no ads.
My guess is they leave it alone and just show off the new 10.5 model. There's no compelling reason for an updateMarch 2017 will be the one year anniversary. I think Apple will ditch the IPad Mini, .The 9.7 IPad Pro will be the low cost model, ( there is no reason to produce an new 9.7 IPad Pro with A9X processor ). So , the 9.7 IPad Pro will be the low cost model. iPad Mini is over
Apple will introduce an 10.5 inch model ., with A10X processor (maybe 3GB of RAM?) , and a 12.9 inch model Pro 2 feature true tone display, 4GB of RAM or more,2 gen Touch ID , 12MP and 5MP cameras , a faster processor , more powerful, new rose gold color, jet black colors. Possibly, the remove of 3.5mm headphone jack ., Apple Pencil 2 with more functionalities limited to the Pro 2 .
Maybe new Home bottom from iPhone 7?
March 2017
iPad Pro 2 12.9 inch (A10X processor 4GB of RAM or more )
iPad Pro 2 10.5 inch ( A10X processor 3GB of RAM)
iPad Pro 1 9.7 inch( A9X processor 2GB of RAM
Question :Will the IPad Pro 1 12.9 inch be ditched from the line up next year ???
I would definitely wait until we see Apple offers in March 2017. The Air 2 is fairly fast in terms of speed with the 9.7 Pro.
The OP is asking for advice on when to upgrade. Not to get told "hurrrrrr durrrr whenever u want".There is no reason to upgrade to 9.7 inch IPad Pro if you already have an Air 2 . The question about wait or not to wait is personal.OP, u can wait for the newer one next year if you want or not . This is up to you! U can upgrade whenever you want . I am not going to upgrade my IPad Air 2 to IPad Pro .Maybe in the 2nd gen as I usually get the 2nd model
[doublepost=1477954705][/doublepost]U can upgrade whenever you want
I'd say spring or fall of 2017.
What a stupid statement to make. "Nah buddy, just wait 4-6 months for the new one that's not even rumored yet. I KNOW IT'LL BE BETTER."
How about this, OP. If you want/need one now? Jump at it. If the next version, in some unknown number of months, is better and you want it, sell this one, buy that one. Easy, and then you're not sacrificing literal months of usage just to get the latest and greatest at some point in the future. Because that's idiotic. See: all the people that have waited years for the new MacBook Pro, only to buy the 2015 model because the 2016 is more money for not enough upgrades.
If you read from the beginning of the thread, The OP asked originally when the next 9.7 iPad Pro 2 would be released. It's one year anniversary is in March 2017 and its technical 18 month cycle debut would be in September 2017 . The OP clearly stated they were interested in upgrading at that time. That doesn't make my statement stupid and I clearly answered the OP's question, which they were satisfied with, if you again, read through the entire thread.
Now the new MacBook Pro is entirely another story for upgrading, which most seem to be rather upset with.
Well now I look like a horse's ass. I missed that - I read the OP's post as him planning on upgrading to the current pro 9.7" now, rather than waiting for the 9.7" Pro 2, then being shut down and told to wait.
I still say waiting is ridiculous, but apologize for the sass when it was me missing the mark.
