I wonder how A11X will be...12 cores ?
Ever since the iPad Pro was updated earlier this year I've considered the possibility of Apple "skipping" the A11X.

From today's Bloomberg rumor,
The updated tablet is expected to be released later next year, a little more than a year after the last major iPad Pro upgrade, the people said.
This timeframe is consistent with an update in or around September 2018.

It's true that the A10X was released only a few months before the A11, but the situation will be different in 2018.
  • The iPad Pro 1 12.9" was not updated for slightly over 1.5 years and was a generation behind the iPad Pro 1 9.7" in some features like the camera. This won't be the case with the current iPad Pros next September, it's a more solid lineup.
  • An A11X in 2018 Q3 would be closer to the A12 than the A10X is to the A11, assuming iPhone SoC trends continue. I think an iPad Pro update in September is much more likely than in July or August, and in that case the A11X would be 1 generation behind at launch (+/– a week or two).
So I think an A12X iPad Pro in September-October makes more sense than an A11X iPad Pro in July-September.

Bloomber sais
Apple Inc. is working on a redesigned, high-end iPad for as early as 2018”
So i think wwdc?!

Given TSMC's timeline for 7nm, I would expect the 2018 iPad Pro to have A11X.

Apple's release timing depends on TSMC. For instance, A10X was expected by many in Q1'17 but TSMC delayed 10nm which pushed A10X to mid-2017.

Apple places the highest priority on iPhone success. This means iPhone SoC must have stable and high yields. To do that, Apple needs to ensure the litho process is proven. We saw A10X used as a pipe cleaner part with the 10nm process, to ensure A11 would be successful.

With 7nm entering mass production in early to mid-2018, Apple would want to test the 7nm using A11X before manufacturing A12. If 7nm were available today, then things would be different.

I see segregation in the product. iPad isn’t like iPhone and there’s nowhere near the volume of people who flip for a new one each time a model is released.

I see this option being a truly iPad ‘Pro’ with a higher end price with FaceID and a bunch of other features that they just won’t bring to the existing lineup that will more so just see boosts on the internals than huge feature jumps.

Just my thoughts, wouldn’t be surprised to be wrong.

Apple needs to release a new Mini or Mini Pro! The Mini 4 is 2015? release I think with only an A8 and 2GB of DDR3LP RAM.

I'm not saying they won't, but given that we'll not see any new tablets this year and the age of the current Mini. I'm somewhat skeptical over apple keeping that form factor.

the new mini will be the big iphone Oled Plus with 6.4" and UI that works just like the current ipad with ios11

When the iPad Pro 10.5 released i were extremely tempted to upgrade my iPad Air but i said i can wait one more year when i saw the iPhone X in hope that next iPad Pro would get Face ID, slimmer bezels, OLED and wireless charging.

It seems that iPad Pro 2018 is on track to be almost everything i were hoping for. And i will buy it if its just gets Face ID and wireless charging in combination with a new and faster processor.

Two things that will get me to trade my 2017 in:

1. AMOLED panels

2. Face-ID

I am getting a bit annoyed that I am so used to my X that I kept accidentally swiping up on my iPad and expecting it to take me to my home screen instead of the control center.

With the True Depth sensors being an issue we may not get a new iPad until late 2018 or maybe 2019, plus depending on the next few months Face ID is in testing so it may no make it to the iPad.
If we get another upgrade in about a year I hope we get this...

IF WE GET an update, I see...
A11X 6-8Core
4-6GB RAM
Slim Bezels
No Home Button
Increased Screen Size
(10.5” perhaps becoming 11.1” and 12.9” becoming 13.3”)
I don’t see OLED becoming an iPad thing until either Samsung gets another way of manufacturing more, or Apple starts doing their own or has another supplier.

But as it is now, I LOVE the new iPad Pro. I love the new OS, it’s now almost a 50/50 hybrid of Mac OS and iOS. Comparing it to iPhone it certainly is much different and much more like a PC replacement/tablet OS. I don’t even use the home button except unlocking it. The new gestures and amazing UI make ipad’s iOS 11 the best update I’ve seen.
I think 2017 has been Apple’s greatest year, I love the new iPhone 10 and iPad Pro. The upcoming iMac Pro while stupidly expensive... looks awesome.

Kal.

To remove the true depth sensors manufacturer issues, they newd to release them at Wwdc when iphone x is lower in production and also no for the upcoming iphones
So between May and October they shold can make 3-4 millions ipads

Bought mine yesterday, thank God I did it just in time before Apple makes it uglier and less practical.

Why on earth you want / need Face ID?
Just curious..

Since the bezels are narrower and no home button, a 9.7", the new iPad would come close to the physical size of the current Mini. It like the iPhone X is close to the physical size of the iPhone 6,7,8! So I cannot wait to buy the smallest iPad in 2018!

Just curious how it is any efficient, since you still have to swipe up to get to the home screen whereas you just touch the fingerprint reader to do the same.
I don't need to swipe up, I just click on any of the notification that I need to click and it takes me there. The only time I swipe up is when I need to switch apps.

According to MR Buyer's guide, proceed with caution with respect to buying the current iPad Pro 10.5.

It's near it's end cycle and with $150 off sales abound on Black Friday, it may point to a new model soon (next 3 months).

That said, it's plenty fast as is...but perhaps not when updated to iOS 12 o_O

The buyer's guide makes no sense - it's been out 5 months, no way is it near end cycle. The previous model (the 9.7 pro) was released in March 2016 (price adjustment in Sept 16 is not a new version).
