Not surprising, don't really expect the new one in the fall to be any different. I know it is an issue for a lot of people, but I have had a 2018 model in each size since launch, one of the two come to work everyday, other is used around the house everyday, and neither has bent so far, so it is fine for my uses.

Again, my 2018 12.9” has been all over the world with me in backpacks, carry-on luggage, hundreds of security and x-ray machines, and coach (cattle-class) airline seat backs. It even went through a car accident where my work Dell laptop was destroyed and I ended up with several broken bones.

When i first got it, i put a machinist rule on it and it was as flat as can be. 1.5+ years Later, it is still the same. My personal experience is that the whole bending thing is blown way out of proportions. I have no doubt there were units out of spec that should have never shipped. But I have my doubts about the bending in the field, at least on the 12.9”.

The bending 'issue' with the 2018 models was that some of them shipped bent, they were literally deformed right out of the box. I haven't heard of many further cases of that later in the availability cycle of the 2018 models, so I think its a manufacturing issue they managed to fix. The actual structural integrity isn't meaningfully different to any of the models that came before it right back to the original iPad Air, you put that sort of pressure on any post iPad 4 iPad and it will bend.

I think this bending is a none issue if you treat the iPad Pro as it should be treated - a valuable piece of equipment. I have used mine daily ever since the 2018 came out. It has been many times around the world and has been dropped on more than one occasion. It is still perfect with no bend.

Just don’t sit on it, or use all your force to try and destroy and it will be fine.

Hey guys, just made a separate post regarding something I have ran into with the 2020 pro, screen flexing, and wanted to see if you guys who previously owned the 2018 pros had the same issue?

I attached a link to what exactly I am seeing on my end. Not sure if these are just how these devices are built of if this is an issue that I should bring up to apple with my device only?

iPad Pro 2020 Bend test...

Sucks they did not improve the structural integrity of this new iPad. Will wait for possible revision end of year :(
Yes, but what about regular use cases? If I purposefully bend a stick for no reason whatsoever, its going to bend. ;)

Flexgate?

Was this amount of display flex seen on the 2018 models though? I was on the older basic iPad before making this jump where the display didn't flex at all, not to my knowledge, but it was also a much smaller surface area.

Same exact material and setup as the 2018 model so I expected the same result to happen. Treating it like an iPad instead of a thin piece of 2x4 will prevent bending.

Plus, people who do this stuff on purpose are wasting money and materials.

I don't understand... treat your expensive devices as such. Don't throw them around as if they're unbreakable. I paid $1,500 for my 2018 Pro 11" ... I am NOT going to throw it around and mishandle it because "I expect it to withstand" being treated like it's a $5 product. It won't bend in everyday use if you treat it like its value worth. They don't bend on it's own. I've had mine for nearly 2 months and use it everyday even traveled with it in NYC with being bumped into and all and it survived because I didn't just throw it in my bag without it's own sleeve to protect it. Take precautions not because its thin and prone to bending if you put pressure on it... take precautions because you spent your hard earned money on it.

How much force is needed to bend before it breaks? That the real question. Cause having some flex to it is actually a good thing.
