So my new iPad Pro 2020 11” has just arrived and I’m loving it already. However, and I may be being overly picky here, the side volume buttons seem a little bit loose to the touch. Not much, but you can definitely feel some movement when you touch them. In contrast, there’s no movement at all with the top power button. Is this normal? Do other iPad Pro 2020 owners notice this with their volume buttons? As I say, I may be being overly picky!

Thought I’d do a little test and to be honest, the power button and the two volume buttons are a little loose but not anything that I would particularly notice.

I got a new iPod touch recently for iOS development and the power + volume buttons were noticeably loose on that too.

not an iPad, but I’ll be getting my Pro next week so I’ll be able to comment better then

They're loose on my 2018 iPad Pro too.

I’ve had loose volume buttons on various devices, not just on iPads or Apple products and they never really bothered me. I think it’s normal.

Thanks for the replies. As I said in my original post, I thought that I was being too picky and your replies have confirmed this and have helped put my mind at ease!

It’s probably normal. Buttons can wiggle - I had Apple devices with firm buttons, with loose buttons and everything in-between. There are always variances that stem from the manufacturing process, and there’s no guarantee firm buttons won’t become loose over time. If they function properly, I wouldn’t worry about it.

(Btw, I have slightly loose volume buttons on my 2018 iPad Pro).

Just got my 2020 iPad Pro 11. Power and both home buttons have some wiggle to them. Most frustratingly, the up volume button is a little looser than the down volume button. Wish they were at least symmetric. But, they work no matter what part of the button I press, so I can’t imagine doing any kind of exchange, especially since the rest of the iPad is essentially perfect.

i get the idea that these are mass produced but I mean, a lot of buttons are mass produced that do not have such variances. The damn thing only has 3 buttons on it! I feel like it wouldn’t be that particularly hard to ensure they are seated correctly.

The one I currently have which arrived with an ugly dent out of the box that I’m waiting to return also has some wiggle to both volume buttons. The power button is pretty firm though.
