Depends on what charger you’re using.

2.5 hours sounds about right with the 18-20W charger.

I once set up automations to text me the battery charge level and time (when plugged/unplugged and when it rises above 90%). I got the following with a 120W 4-port charger. The max power draw from the wall was ~39W with just the iPad connected.

iPad Pro 12.9 5th gen
10:35 AM 36%
11:43 AM 91%
12:00 PM 96%

Note that charging is not linear. It goes slower as the battery fills up. I believe the major inflection points are at ~50%, ~80% and ~90%.

Start time is at 10:35 AM. That 36% was when I plugged in the iPad.

I usually charge the iPad between 30-50%. I try my best to avoid draining it to 0% (or even under 20%).

Another inflection point is 99%! It takes a while to get to 100%. Used to the 5w charger on all of my iPhones, and the 10w charger on my 9.7-inch iPad Pro, the 20w included charger of my iPad Air 5 is extremely fast for me.

The only 9.7 inch Pro was 2016 and that one didn’t support USB PD fast charging.
Yeah, my iPhone Xʀ supports it, but like I said, I always used the 5w charging. I didn’t know what fast charging was. I’m surprised!
