For me personally the experience will be unchanged. I’ve owned my iPad for years and never once used the ultra wide to do anything. I would much prefer to have the main camera be better at document scanning, which the new one offers with the updated flash.

I’ve never really felt the need to take pictures with my iPad when I have a more capable iPhone on hand. Why pay for cameras on both? How often is your phone not handy?

Not taking away from those that like redundancy.. just offering another perspective
I thought that the ultrawide was valuable for room scanning with the LiDAR. But yes, other than that, no loss there. I rarely even use the ultrawide on my iPhone.

Couldn‘t resist to order - just hope Apple will soon provide an adequate OS (iPadOS18 I hope) to use this beast

Indeed - could not care less. However the new scanning feature looks useful - these shadows are really annoying in real life

And just like that, my perfectly fine 12.9 inches iPad pro m1, became horrible to my eyes. It was always TOO heavy and used MUCH less than my badly aging iPad Pro 10inches. If only it had Mac OS when attached to a keyboard it would be magic. Imagine: iOS without keyboard; Mac OS with an attached keyboard!!!. That is my target device.

2024 iPad summary.

Two Pro color choices: Silver, or Scratches & Fingerprints Black.

Two screen choices: Twenty year old LCD tech, or exorbitantly expensive and experimental OLED tech that might be broken a year later.

Think I'll pass for now 👍

I mean, in that case they could’ve got rid of the lidar sensor and the big square housing bump. Otherwise I would’ve preferred a single lens protruding like my 2018 Pro.

It appears to have one camera, LIDAR, LED, ambient light sensor, and some other small sensor (not a camera, not sure what it is), but not a 2-camera system anymore, no.
Reason must be how few people even use rear-facing cameras on the iPad, so if the ultrawide is improved but the zoom sensor is gone it may be better for its purposes, and it just doesn't need to be a zooming camera for most people. If you need to shoot far away photos get a mirrorless!
It may also be a question of thickness.

With a single camera it would have been nice to get the 48MP camera from the iPhone. Works well in 2x for things like document capture.
The regular iPhone 15 with camera bump is almost 4 mm or 55% thicker than the iPad Pro 13” with camera bump. Something has to give.

Yeah, I won't be replacing my M1 iPad Pro until I can actually use the new iPad Pros with macOS. Until then, it's just a tertiary device at best to my Macbook Pro and iPad Mini that I use substantially more than my M1 iPad Pro.

Yeah I won't be upgrading either. I'm just like you but I have the apple watch, the apple xdr display with the special apple monitor stand, the mac pro, apple tv, iphone pro, and the vision pro. The ipad is just something I have on the coffee table. I'm so bummed they didn't come up with an apple car, otherwise i would have bought that too because i can.

Kinda looks like a rush job to support AI that left out many features I use in my M2 11" iPad Pro 2TB. Don't feel like spending around $2,600 for this upgrade. I did go to the M2 from the M1 11" iPad Pro 2TB and got useful upgrades.

I have a M1 14" MBPro (64GB and 4TB SSD) and a M1 Ultra MacStudio (128GB and 8TB SSD) that could be upgraded to the M4 family if the specs warrant. Single core speed improvements are a determining factor in whether to upgrade.

Other than OLED display, not seeing any particular reason to upgrade from any M series iPad Pro

I am trading in my M1 11" for the 13" 256GB. The M1 is still beyond fast and unless they do something with iPadOS the M4 won't make any difference.
I’m going the other way, trading in my M1 12.9” for the 11”. The only reason I went for the bigger form factor last time was that the larger one had the better screen. The M1 is still fast enough for everything I do: I simply want to move back to a smaller device without sacrificing screen quality. The other big change for me is the camera in landscape mode as I am on conference calls at least 3 hours a day. The lighter form factor of the 13 along with a slightly lighter Magic Keyboard are tempting, but I am really tired of my ultra mobile computer (ipad) being heavier than my MBA.

I'm upgrading form an 11" 256GB 2nd Gen to the new 11" 512GB M4. I'm looking forward to the new screen and more space for movies. And if my flight sims run better I'll be very happy.

In other words, not the same size.
Same size, the bezel’s just smaller.

13” of viewing space. The made the same argument with the Apple Watches unless you get the ultra the 42mm bands still fit the regular 44mm because the screen’s the same just less bezels

Certainly tempting with the OLED, but my M2 11” still works great and I don’t absolutely NEED OLED (just a nice to have). Plus, I have the MKB and don’t want to have to go through the whole selling my current iPad + MKB and buy the new model. Especially when I’m not going to make much use of the M4.
