Hey all,

Currently typing on my ipp3, which I absolutely love. It is an incredible piece of technology...that is just clearly destined for MORE. I can’t help but think that Apple put this thing out with the intention of quickly making major adjustments to iOS to take the training wheels off this thing. It’s too ‘close’ to remain this way.. imo. What do y’all think?

Dude. I think this every year. I remember I thought that apple must have SOMETHING up their sleeves for iPad for iOS 12 to show us its more than just a tablet. What’d we get? Not a single iPad specific feature.

There’s rumors that iOS 13 will add some stuff like tabbed apps and multiple instances of the same app, but it’ll still just be an iPad. Who knows if we will ever get the ability to access external hard drives like a proper computer or even...A MOUSE.

Keep expectations low. Don’t try to connect the dots like I’ve done over the years. You’ll end up disappointed when nothing comes of it

I think Apple will never allow the iPad to do what it could.

Sadly, going to have to agree. As a pediatric therapist, I love the creativity with the device, and the portability is awesome. Still happy, overall. Just frustrating to think that the company willingly holds back advancements of an incredible product.

I think that Apple is beefing up the hardware for many things, some that we are not aware of. It’s a ‘Field of Dreams’ situation, ‘If you build it they will come’. Of course if you don’t build a usable platform first, there’s no reason to develop for it. With their rapidly advancing silicon, A12/A12X they are positioning themselves to host features and abilities that competitors cannot offer - the A12/A12X slays the competition, but it isn’t about making Apple hardware faster, it’s about Apple hardware being able to host new software that others cannot.

I for one an happy with my ‘hobbled’ 12.9” iPad gen 3 Pro. I had a MBA and got rid of it (full disclosure, I have an ancient Mac Mini file server and a 2017 iMac). I don’t want a keyboard, a mouse, and an external hard drive. If I did I’d buy a new MBA, great device. It’s a mobile device, and I only want to carry one thing and I’m willing to put up with the compromises.

Now, if I could get a true file browser on it rather than the nonsensical app-oriented structure I’d be overjoyed. Windows Explorer (when it worked as designed, which was most of the time) would be great even though it’s Microsoft. Hey, even a blind squirrel finds some nuts. As an aside, I actually wouldn’t mind a Surface if I could get Windows 7 on it, but I would not use it the same way as the iPad.

Totally. I think the live demo of photoshop at the iPad event signaled this very clearly. Photoshop not coming until next year, but it was a huge indication that the new iPad Pros are ready and waiting for the software developers to start upping their game. I for one would have liked for Apple to announce their own plans to bring Final Cut Pro to the iPad Pro...but I think they will eventually.
