So far on the iPhone side the new Raise to Wake seems to only be enabled on the 6s, 6s+ and SE. Speculation has been due to the M9 coprocessor.

The iPad Pro 12.9" has the M9 coprocessor but does not include the M9 specific features (such as Always On Hey Siri, and now Raise to Wake) for whatever reason unknown to me. (M9 should mean it has M9 features)

The 9.7" Pro does however include Always On Hey Sir (again strange that one device with M9 can and another can't.) Can anyone who has the 9.7" Pro and iOS 10 installed confirm if it does also include Raise to Wake?

Raise to wake is not enabled on my iPad Pro 9.7

Thanks for the reply.

Makes me wonder then if the feature just isn't fully enabled on all devices yet for this Developer Preview 1 build and perhaps not just an M9 only thing. (Because the M7 and M8 also are still on when the device is locked for tracking steps and stairs)

Perhaps it only was enabled for 6s, 6s+ and SE just so they could show it on stage at the keynote.

It also has to do with the Touch ID 2 people complained it was too fast. I think its only going to be and iPhone 6s feature. Until new hardware

iPhone SE has Raise to Wake and doesn't have the quicker Touch ID 2.

So that can't be the determining factor. Also swipe to unlock is gone on all devices, which is part of their Touch ID being too quick "solution" even on devices that do not have the newer v2 one or even Touch ID at all.

This is all true so hmmm. Must be an iPhone only thing then. Reasons unknown to me.

It's possible that Apple feels "raise to wake" simply doesn't make sense on an iPad.

The expected use case is an iPhone user taking the phone out of his pocket and raising it to his eye level, or picking the iPhone up from a table. This is the sort of motion "raise to wake" is programmed to look out for, the same way you raise your wrist to look at your watch. You are more likely to be using your iPad on a flat surface. There is less motion involved, and so said feature is less likely to be triggered.

I think that makes sense; I don't want to be that guy wafting my iPad around like an idiot.

I think raise to wake on an iPad might not be very practical, but maybe I'm wrong. =)

Maybe because the way you hold your iPad to your face is a bit slower compared to that of the iPhone, and thus, the sensor won't know your actually holding it up? This happens sometimes with my Apple Watch.

I could be wrong though.

I really like the idea of it, but I don't think we'll see it, unfortunately. Send feedback to Apple maybe?

Does anybody use the iPad without a Smart Cover?
Raise to wake with a magnetic cover is completely pointless. My iPad is always on the moment I open the cover.
Obviously much more useful on the iPhone.
