Who else is pumped about getting an iPad Pro 9.7"?!?! At first I was excited to see that the dimensions were the same as the iPad Air 2 because that would mean there would be a huge selection but the new camera factor and speakers sunk that idea. Currently Apple provides three cover options.

Apple Store
  • Smart Cover
  • Smart Keyboard
  • Silicone Case (These are awful)
Will update as more come up.

  • Silicone Case (These are awful)

To each their own because I couldn't disagree more. My family all have them on all our iOS devices and to me these are the best cases Apple's ever made.

I have the Air 2 and I'm really just dying to know if the new silicone case will fit the Air 2 without any problems...

I really don't like how "sticky" they can be. Throw it in your backpack? Well now it may come back with excess lint and maybe a paper attached. Lay it on your desk? Now you just scooped up some dust/lint. Too messy for my taste but I think they should work with the Air 2. The dimensions are still the same but the Silicone case will have those speaker cut outs and the different camera cut. Aside from that it should fit.

Fair enough. I personally don't mind the stickiness.

Yea, the dimensions are exact for both devices. Just concerned if button placement has moved at all, even if it's mere millimeters. Same goes with the Camera lens hole cutout and I see that it now extends downward on the new cases for the flash but that shouldn't be an issue either I think.

Should fit fine. Would have extra holes for the new speakers but otherwise should be fine.

I am wondering about this too

I don't like the feel of the silicon either AND the fact it is a two part solution AND it is really expensive compared to the cost of the leather Smart Case.

I have a Leather Smart Case for my work iPad so will be able to see about the placement of the speaker holes and buttons.... if it close enough I will get one and see about finding a leather smith (or whatever they are called) to cut the extra holes for me.

EDIT:

Bought a leather hole-punch, if the buttons are aligned, then I will have a go at modding an air 2 case, if not I will have to look at other options I guess

While not technically a case, will my Air 2 smart cover work with the Pro?

That's what I'd like to know as well. The dimensions for both the Air 2 & 9.7" Pro are identical, but Apple doesn't list it as compatible. It would be nice if I could use the same Smart Cover that I already have for my Air 2 when I upgrade to the Pro.

I'm wondering if the button cut outs on the air 2 case are in the same location, also the protruding camera. If those are all in the same location couldn't someone theoretically use correct size drill bits and make holes for the extra speakers and the flash below the camera?

Not a fan of no one piece smart case for the 9.7 pro

I'm waiting to see who comes out with a decent origami style case for it. I've grown very fond of the blue leather Coach origami case on my iPad Air. It's been on over two years and still looks great.

We bought a Photive origami case for the older 4th generation iPad we have, and that thing is torn to shreds, despite living a plush life.

I'm pretty handy with tools. I've made several iPad and iPhone stands/holders. I will tweak one of my cases, to try and fit the Pro into, as soon as I get it in my hands.

I am really debating what I need for a case for the 9.7 Pro. I have a sleeve I bought off etsy a long time ago that has a pocket for the Pen, so I may just use that and then put a skin on the back of the iPad. I am also going to wait to see what other people offer for smart connector keyboard cases before plunking down $149 for the Apple smart keyboard.
