Anyone had their Lightning Port replaced by apple out of warranty?
Do you know what they charge? Do they just replace the whole logic board?

Mine is misbehaving and it needs replacing so I've sent it to Apple for a quote. Im wondering what they're going to charge. I know 3rd party places will do the job for £60. So I Imagine apple will charge twice that at least..

If they have to replace the logic board it will cost much more than twice as much.

At least in the US, Apple charges a flat rate for out of warranty repairs:
https://support.apple.com/ipad/repair/service

They don't replace the whole board, they replace the whole device.
yeah they did that with my dads iPhone when he smashed the screen, but they charge for the faulty part.

Anyhow. As soon as they received it they sent me a replacement, but they can't tell me if or how much they're gonna charge for it?????

when I booked it in the guy said they would asses it and tell me how much it was going to cost and if I dint like it they would send it back for free.

Either they've decided to repair it for free or repaired it without authorisation from me..

If its the former great!! if its the latter my CC company will claw back they money they preauthorised as I have the chat transcript where the rep stated that was the case.

So they charged me over £1000 for an unrepairable replacement. After a couple of hours on the phone they refunded me the charge. It was handy that I organised it all over the web chat and had the transcript to prove the rep had said I wouldn’t be charged until I had agreed on the cost.

Nice. Score one for using chat -- which is one of my least favorite ways to obtain support, but in this case it clearly paid off.

no one has ever had a lightning port replaced by apple because they don't do that. on the ipad or the iPhone. if your lightning port doesn't work you are on the hook for a full device replacement.

that's BS and if you get one of those surveys polite them tell them so. here in the US if you are out of warranty they will always quote you the worst case scenario and have you agree that you are willing to pay that before they start any repair on an iOS device. if they find it's just something like the display on an iPhone or the battery on an iPad (batteries are the only repair with a special price) happy day you get charged less. the only time it goes the other way is if your device is in warranty and they find that it has damage (like liquid in a phone). then they contact you with a requote. if Apple Care overseas doesn't play by the same rules they should. if they do and some noob didn't follow protocol then he/she needs the feedback so that proper training might occur

At least two people at Apple told me that the procedure was to take the iPad in and give me an estimate and not proceed until I had agreed on the price. As there was proof of this in the chat transcripts, they gave me a full refund. Had they had told me it was £1000 plus I would have got a 3rd party to replace the Lightning port for £60.
Clearly the reps have been given duff information by someone but at least they ‘fessed up and made good.. I’ve had other companies that made mistakes like that and just dig their heels in and refuse to make good.

People make mistakes.. You’ll never eliminate that.. It’s how you deal with the mistakes that matters. And in this case Apple said sorry and gave me back the money they took.
