Not really. But it’s always the case of YMMV

You’re paying a premium for an upgraded screen with ProMotion and more ram (4GB vs 2).

If you’re using the ASK and/or multitasking the increased size would impact more your daily usage/comfort level.

I have a 10.5 but would have probably been as well served by a 9.7 iPP. I eventually went with the 10.5 primarily because of PDF viewing (that 18% larger screen made a difference for view regular PDFs and sheet music) and the larger Apple Smart Keyboard. But even with this, there are moments I wish I had saved the money and gone with the 9.7 iPP.

But for media consumption and web browsing, I would save the money and get the iPP 9.7. You may even also want to check out the 2017 iPad (5th generation). The screen is non-laminated, but it's a good-looking display. I don't know your location, but Costco members in the U.S. can buy the 128GB version for $360 through August 27.

I just went from an iPad Air to a 10.5 and the difference in my opinion is that it is well worth it. My wife has a 12.9 and it's too big to be portable. I got my 256gb 10.5 lightly used with a smart keyboard, pencil, and smart cover for $820.

If all you're doing is media consumption and web browsing, do you need an iPad Pro at all, or would the standard iPad suffice?
If you're set on an iPad Pro then I'd say the 10.5 is definitely worth the extra over the 9.7 - the extra screen size makes a difference and there are a lot of performance updates under the hood too

I can get the ipad pro 9.7 for the same price as the ipad 9.7 2017 that's why I said the pro.

It seems the iPad 2017 would satisfy your needs, but you can get the Pro 9.7 for the same price. In that case, getting the Pro 9.7 is a no brainer, IMO.

If the $250 difference for the 10.5 isn't an issue, the 10.5 is a great iPad and is a solid purchase. However, if you can use that $250 somewhere else, I don't think you'll miss anything by getting the 9.7 Pro. Fear of missing out drives much unnecessary spending. I know from experience. ;)

I upgraded from air 2 to IPP 9.7, tried the 10.5 before hand and couldn't justify to myself keeping it based on my usage. I've also tried the 2017 9.7 non pro, liked it but really wanted the laminated screen and the 4 speakers. Ended up getting a decent deal on a 9.7 IPP which only cost me about $60 more than the 2017 ipad.

So I have the 9.7 pro and an extra $250 or so in my pocket and am very happy with the iPad.

If it was me in your situation, I would have also purchased the Pro. It Offers more features and I really like the idea of the laminated display. Both tablets are great, but for the same price and your uses are light, the Pro would have been my choice as well.

I think for just browsing and media consumption, I would have stuck to just my Air 2. After two and a half years of daily use, it still serves this purpose wonderfully (doesn't feel slow or has battery issues). Even in direct comparison to my 2017 12.9" Pro, I feel it's a great device for those tasks. It's also why I kept it as a secondary iPad instead of rehoming it.

Anyway, I would get the 9.7 Pro if you can get it at the same price as the a 2017 9.7. My alternative plan would be to look for a newish Air 2 at a low price.

The Pros are worth it just for the speakers over other iPads. The 9.7 pro is nice and would do great as a media device but if you can find a good deal on a pro 10.5 go with that. Just got a 10.5 from b&h as they had it at 599 and no tax. Sold my air 2 on gazelle so total price for my Pro 10.5 was $440!

That's pretty much my opinion as well.
