Hey, so I picked up a 9.7 inch iPad Pro in Space Grey a few days ago. It's a wi-fi+cellular model, and I paid $600 for it (sells for $729 plus tax at the Apple Store). The thing is, I don't need the cellular feature; it's something I don't plan on using.

I don't know what to do with it. It's actually still shrink-wrapped in the box. All I need is the base wi-fi model, and I'd prefer a gold one. Should I try and sell it for a slight profit and just buy the standard wi-fi model (with a $20 student discount)? Or should I just keep the wi-fi+cellular model even though I'll never use the cellular service?

How much would you actually net from doing this? And how much time would this take? If the profit is going to be marginal then I honestly wouldn't bother - you may find in the future you want cellular and it's handy, but if you never use it then you won't notice the difference.

Well you can't use the cellular service unless you have a Provider. So how and where did you buy it ? I am guessing you can just do a simple exchange since it's still wrapped. And note they LTE cellular models have a higher resale value

I bought it unlocked. I have Verizon, but I can't justify paying monthly (I'm a "starving college student" ;)) plus I just get wi-fi from my phone when I need it. I think I'm leaning towards keeping it cause I can just sell it for a little higher later...it just feels a little like a waste though.

I bought it from eBay...and it was a good deal. Is there any place I could trade it in or something? If not I think it'll just be easier to keep it...

The closest you'll get is something like Swappa, but that's still selling it and getting a different device. I wouldn't bother personally - too much hassle.

Keep it, use it, enjoy it. You know you bought a LTE version for the price of a WiFi version! That's a good deal. If you ever need to be away from wifi often you buy a month-plan or prepaid. You also have GPS and a compas built in.

Unless the space grey is offending to you, or the gold is really important, you now have a really nice iPP.
Bringing it back and trading when you bought it on eBay might be a bit difficult and you'll have to wait what you can get back, that is a risk as well. You now know what you have, that is worth something as well.

I'll be keeping it then. Thanks for all the input! :)

Good choice, enjoy it! Enable the LTE when you can afford it.

I got my niece an Air 2 with Wifi+LTE, but she was in a similar situation as you were, no extra cash for monthly LTE service (student loan payments, feh!). So for the first few months she just used the Wifi, then when she could afford it, she added an LTE plan. Worked for her, and it will for you too.

I would keep it. You don't have to turn on a cellular provider, although you can get free 200MB through T-Mobile. And with the cellular model, you get a GPS chip. The wi-fi model doesn't have this.

Exactly. Would be dumb to replace this at such a good bargain, especially with free 200mb and gps.

I don't know if T-Mobile is still doing this but just get their monthly free cellular data service. You get 200mb a month at no cost.
