The next iPad Pro models could have even thinner bezels around the screen.

In a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo today, the account Instant Digital claimed that the bezels on future iPad Pro models could be as thin as those on Samsung's Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra tablet, although they said the iPad Pro will not have a notch.

Instant Digital has more than 1.4 million followers on Weibo, and the account has accurately leaked Apple information before, such as the Yellow finish for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2's Titanium Milanese Loop. However, like most sources, the account does not have a perfect track record.

Earlier this week, we covered a report that said Apple is considering using LG's chip-on-film (CoF) technology for future iPad Pro displays. This would allow for display drivers to be positioned closer to the screen, which could allow for thinner bezels.

The bezels on the latest iPad Pro models with the M4 chip are already slightly thinner compared to the previous-generation models with the M2 chip, but it is believed that the reduction would be even more significant on the next iPad Pro models.

Instant Digital did hedge their claim by saying that the ultra-thin bezels might not necessarily be ready in time for the next iPad Pro models.

Last year, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said iPad Pro models with an M5 chip would enter mass production in the second half of 2025. The current iPad Pro models with the M4 chip launched in May 2024, and Apple typically updates the iPad Pro on a roughly 18-month cycle, so the next models could be released in September or October this year.

Maybe this will come with a slight increase in display size while keeping the same overall footprint? Not sure about the slimmed down bezels on an iPad though but let's see it live in action and it may win me over. Bigger than 13'' will be a welcome addition.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Apple Intelligence Redesigns iPad Bezels. Moves Them to the Back.

Cupertino, CA — In a groundbreaking act of artificial arrogance, Apple today unveiled the latest iPad Pro, featuring Ultra-Thin Bezels™—so thin, so advanced, 90% of them have been banished to the back of the device.

Because when you hand over design decisions to Apple Intelligence™, things get... ground breaking.

Using trillions of parameters, kilobytes of data, and the heightened common sense of Siri, Apple Intelligence determined that bezels were “visually disruptive” and “emotionally outdated.” So it did what any omnipotent algorithm would do: it relocated them behind the screen, out of sight, out of mind, and definitely out of user demand.

“This was the inevitable next step, never before seen in a handheld device” claimed someone who's salary is millions of dollars a year. “The front of the iPad is now 99.9% display. The back? 10% bezel. It’s balance. It’s harmony. It’s... what the AI told us to ship. Magic!”

Key features include:

  • ReverseBezel™ Architecture — Finally, bezels where they can’t bother your content.
  • Apple Intelligence Design Autonomy™ — Our AI read one Dieter Rams quote and started redesigning everything.
  • Touch Confusion Enhancement™ — With no front bezels to hold, you’re free to trigger random gestures with your palms, knuckles, and existential dread.
When asked whether this was a good idea, Apple Intelligence simply replied:

“Based on 17.8 billion design iterations... yes. Also, you're holding it wrong.”
Starting at $2,399, the new iPad Pro is thinner, smarter, and more questionably designed than ever. It truly is the best iPad we have ever created, light years ahead of any tablet that has come before. And if you don’t like it? Apple Intelligence is already working on the next one—featuring bezels stored in iCloud (Apple One™ subscription required).

Bleh. The panel is already too sensitive, and I have issues with phantom touches at the bezel edges, despite my hands/fingers being firmly within the black bezel (or at the iPad sides)

Instead of creating new and useful features, Apple is “innovating” by having thinner bezels. Whee.

If the bezels are way thinner, then what about the camera? Will they move it to the corner, or will this result in a notch or dynamic island

This is one product where bezels are fine. Apples phantom touch software hasn’t been able to keep up with the iPads slimming bezels.

The bezels are fine as is, and shrinking them a lot more will cause issues.

The interesting question is where the entry level iPad will be in 2-4 years; my guess is that the iPad Air will be phased out.

I really liked the thin side bezels of my old iPad Air and I never had any issues. It would be a nice update but not enough for me to upgrade to a newer iPad.

FWIW, these are around 5.3 mm, while the M4 iPad Pro bezels are around 7.7 mm.

The current iPad Pro is 13.1” (really 13.09” or something). If they keep the outer dimensions, the new bezels might make it 13.3” or 13.4”. Similar to the difference between the old 12.9” and the current 13.1”.

Not sure whether decreasing the bezels will make it easier to hold without causing accidental touches. Anyway if this is going to be true, it will most likely be for the M6 version at the earliest.

Also Apple can either decrease the overall dimensions by a small margin or maybe increase the screen to 11.2 / 11.3" from the current 11.1" and for the 13" to 13.1/13.2".

If only the screen didn't give some of us rampant headaches with the PWM.

I have no issues with iPhones, TVs or using a QD-OLED monitor, but the M4 iPad Pro gave me headaches. I now have nothing to upgrade my 2018 iPP from as the iPad Air has no promotion and still uses touch ID. Sigh..... I guess i'll run this for another 18 months and see what happens then. I refuse to buy an old M2 iPP for stupid money.

Is it me or does anyone miss the old style ipads with the home buttons...not the Original ones...no those things were streight up picture frames...i mean the Air type. That was perfect design. it felt just right. This all one sheet of glass look feels weird to me. I almost never use my pro as a tablet unless i have to physically write or draw on it..it just feels funny to me like its too delicate. It lives in the magic keyboard case.

In contrast I remember those super thin side bezels too and I really did not like them. I had to use a case to hold my iPad mini 5 the way I wanted. It was my main reason for upgrading to the iPad mini 7.

Edge detection on my iPad mini 7 is such that it can be really difficult to hit targets (including some of the new iPad OS 26 UI) very close to the edge of the screen. I can only see this issue getting worse.

But it will look pretty so I guess that’s nice.

Those bezels were not an issue at all and you are correct, it would be welcomed even if just the sides again. However, just not those razor thin bezels.

For the love of god do not put a notch or Dynamic Island on the iPad for the sake of slimmer bezels.
An obvious reason why the iPad will probably never have a notch is because there’s no right orientation. The iPhone is clearly mainly portrait.
