Need some help justifying one way or another on weather I should pull the trigger on the current iPad Pro while on sale and save some money vs waiting till next year for new model. I don’t care much about the updated camera that it might have, I’m more concerned that next year might have something more substantial. Thoughts?

How badly do you need/want a new iPad?

I'm still cruising along with a 2nd gen 512GB LTE Pro. No complaints on mine (and I prefer TouchID to FaceID) so I'm in no hurry to replace it. If I end up not liking whatever is announced for the new Pros, I can just get the refurb 2018 Pro 11 1TB LTE for $1279 (or less).

Ouch just the thought of spending that kindof money on refurb . . LOL.

I'm with you though - I'm happy with my Gen 2 12.9 . . no intention of purchasing a new one, especially since it will require reinvestment in cover and pencil. I have a strong suspicion that I'll skip gen 3 completely.

I'd wager a bet next year will be an incremental update. Faster processor, better camera, etc. It will have the same body (possibly strengthened if not already), but the design will remain the same. There's too much R&D, production, and cost that went into the 2018 models for them to radically change them within 14 - 16 months. Go for the Black Friday sale!

Well, it was $1699 at launch. Even now, it's $1499 MSRP and Black Friday sale price is $1349. Apple refurbs have been as good as new for me so I'm fine with its pricing.

Thing is the 1TB storage and 6GB RAM are the only real upgrades I like from the 3rd gen. There's no point in me upgrading otherwise. A10X is more than fast enough for my usage.

BF deals are very good.

Black Friday deals are often not the best deals of the year. You have to be careful. For example the iPad Pro best price on Amazon.us wasn't in November of last year but in August/September of this year:

There are exceptions, such as TVs as they are nearing the end of their model year lifecycle.

Thanks to Consumer Reports Magazine here are some Black Friday websites to check:

Blah, I'm just going to wait as I don't need it now. I want to make the iPad my only computer and I'd feel bad getting a 2018 one with another possibly around the corner. I don't expect a big update, just a really refined version. I spent a chunk of my iPad fund to force me to wait haha..

I'm interested in creative apps and in another thread someone confirmed higher layer counts with Comic Draw on his 1tb model, so it's only a matter of time for more apps take advantage. When I emailed Procreate regarding their upcoming version, they were only using 4gb for now. If the next iPP got nothing but a bump in RAM I'd be salty about it. So for me waiting and getting a full cycle out of it till the next (probably major) update will be alright. Who knows my usage may even be completely fine with a current 4gb model, but because I want to use more 'intensive' apps it's nice to have the extra.

No no just saying that even at refurbished pricing its hard to swallow. The third generation devices are just plain more expensive than gen 2 all in with the pencil and keyboard. I too would get refurbished but as you say, better to wait for next generation.

Yeah. Price jump was pretty significant and top tier got crazy. Heck, at the $1699 launch pricing for 1TB LTE Pro 11, you could buy two 64GB WiFi Pro 11 and still have change left over. That or 5-7 32GB WiFi iPad 6.

I ended up scooping one up off Swappa. A mint condition 3rd gen 12.9 64GB with Smart Keyboard and a year of AppleCare+ remaining for about $750. Now that you can buy the monthly AppleCare+ program after the initial two years, I’ll keep this thing protected for years. Literally looks brand new. No BF sale can match that.
