Some of us are still buying the 2018 iPad Pros from the Apple Refurb Store. There wasn't a huge difference in the 2020 models. The refurb store has been low in stock lately for iPad Pros, but for good savings, it's worth checking there now and then.

For the new ones (edit: and the 2018), Best Buy has some configs in stock and others for shipping faster than Apple's. For example, you can get an 11" wifi 256 on 8/21 from BB versus 9/15-22 from Apple.

I second Best Buy. I almost always buy my Apple stuff there. They have better financing options, 24 months 0% interest on certain models. They also bundle it with stuff.. 4 months of Apple Music, etc.

They price match student pricing as well. I bought my daughter a Pro for her distance learning, no issue getting the 100 bucks off Apple gave at the time. Their shipping times also beat Apple for both my MK and Pro purchase.

The MacRumors buying guide says no.

As the majority is saying, go for the 2020 models. Unless you want to potentially wait until next spring or summer. But the 2020 models are going to be competitive for a couple of years.

As you know they were released this year with a minimal update so should be current for a while longer. Nice devices if you need the screen estate. The lower iPads are also capable of pretty much all of the stuff that you can do with the bigger/more expensive ones, except for that LIDAR toy and some more ram.
