I always bought wifi iPads but I've had a cellular Pro since launch. It would be hard for me to buy one for myself without cellular in the future. I love being able to go to the cellular if there is some issue or using it as a hotspot since my att unlimited data does not allow that on my iPhone. The T-Mobile one time 5 month 5 gb pace you get offered with a new iPad is also a great deal to get you started. Some of the $129 I feel is made up by that introductory deal.

I started buying Wifi only iPads, because i have an iPhone 6 plus for use outside house+ wifi version is lighter wieght :)

My IPP is wifi, use phone for anything I might need cellular for. In my case I'm just trying to be as cost effective as I can wherever I can, I have so many monthly services already...didn't want another one! Plus I have a grandfathered unlimited ATT phone plan, can't tether to IPad, but can do anything I need on phone.

I would go with cellular if possible. I have a mixture of both at home. I typically tether to my iPhone so I don't really use cellular that much, but it does come in handy at times. A few years ago I lost power for several days due to hurricane Sandy. It was good to be able to save my phone battery for strictly phone calls, and only use my cellular iPad to keep tabs on the news and utilities repairs.

I have a LTE mifi device that I have had for a few years. It works great because the whole family can use it, my wife and I still have unlimited data so no tethering.
If you're on VZW, you can tether with UL data for an extra fee ($30 per month for my iPhones, or $1 per diem as it can be turned on/off via the My VZW app/web portal or by calling 611. The tethering allotment is also unlimited data - I use it all of the time, and I'm tethering via Personal Hotspot right now on my iPhone 6S+, while roaming on USCC. I'm writing about only VZW legacy UL data plans here...

I realize this is an iPad thread, and I use my iPad Air 2's PS option often but my gal pal is using it this week. Long live UL VZW data!

Got my wife a mini 4 with cellular and I'm a huge fan. Not having to deal with having to hotspot is nice.

First iPad for years that I've bought that doesn't have cellular. I occasionally think I should have it, but I really don't need or use it. I have 50gb/month LTE on my iPhone and tethering is really quick and easy. Saves me £100 on the iPad and £150pa on data. Because the iPad is that much larger I don't use it walking around or on the train as much, and there is more or less universal wifi access in London.

There's a number of advantages including superior speed, some free/open wifi hotspots operate on slower 802.11 standards, also there's the security aspect, i.e., no one is sniffing your cellular traffic like they can with wifi and then there's just usage where wifi is not available.

This topic is a regular and the end result is always the same, a diversity of opinion. I think in the US some networks give practically zero cost additional SIMs that share the same plan they already have, so in those cases it may have some merit. For the UK, where such a deal does not exist, I just don't see the point at all unless you use the data plan on the iPad pro heavily, such that the battery drain in hotspot mode is too much of an issue. There is no doubt the battery will go down fairly quickly on the phone in hotspot mode. Another favourite reason cited for choosing the cellular version is the addition of GPS. But who is going to use the ipad pro as a GPS device? It is so massive, you can hardly walk around with it while using it as a map, or stick it on the dashboard in the car!

I have the cellular version, partly because of the larger ram....

That's incorrect. All iPad Pro versions have 4GB RAM, wifi only or cellular.

I hardly use cellular in my Air 2, so opted for wifi only on the Pro.

The cellular version is pretty sweet in the winter time when the power and internet goes out and there is nothing to do. Being able to hop on the net and surf for several hours really helps pass the time.

Hop out to the garage and plug the iPad into the generator.

I'm assuming you have Double Speed 4GEE? is it any good? been contemplating moving away from Vodafone to EE...
I do - it's really quick. EE really irritate me with their spammy text marketing and high prices, but their 4G network is faster than most wifi networks I use.
