iPad Pro iPad Pro coating wearing off?

I have owned my IPP for almost 3 weeks and I noticed that at the left side of the screen, I feel a sort of resistance when using the apple pencil but in the middle section, it's slippery. Is this something with the coating? It's hard to write since parts of the screen feel ok but then some parts are just super slippery. I clean my IPP with damp water on a microfiber cloth.

You should really only use dry water to clean you iPad.

LOL well OP started it with "damp water" . .

Back on topic though, I recall a thread recently talking about inconsistent pencil resistance on stock screens. I suspect this is just that. I believe a common recommendation was if it bothered a user they should consider installing a screen protector of some kind such as a matte one. Kinda sucks but if you think about it, we're talking about microscopically thin coatings being applied to glass being subjected to friction forces of various kinds; nothing lasts for ever. And yes I do realize that OP's is a new device but nonetheless the point being there's going to be variations either by the degradation of the coating or the variation in oils and whatnot on the display.

Get a Paperlike screen protector to prevent the coating from further wearing off.

Good point - or maybe check with Apple if it’s a warranty issue- maybe they cover that.

Those oleophobics wear down fast. Funny story, I used to always use screen protectors from day one on my devices. I went to sell my iPad a few years ago so I took of the tempered glass screen protector. To my astonishment the oleophobic was also removed. One could easy tell, smudges wouldn’t wipe away as easily as before.
