Ugh. So I just accidentally dropped my iPad Pro 10.5 and cracked the screen. I had it registered with AppleCare+ but it expired late October.

Anyone have experience with recently expired AppleCare? Does Apple occasionally honor AppleCare warranty claims if it has not been tooo long since the plan expired?

What does a cracked iPad Pro screen cost to fix?

Apple isn't going to consider 3-4 months as "just out of AppleCare."

There's no way they're going to cover it under an expired Apple Care + plan.

Repair will be $449.

It won’t hurt to ask nicely. Sometimes you may have luck. Just don’t call it a warranty claim. It’s a gesture of good will if they help you, nothing else.

For the cost, I'd just either buy one used off a site like Swappa or upgrade to a new model.

Bummer OP. Sorry to hear.

I stuck a reminder in my calendar to convert to monthly AC+ once my term expires for this very reason. It's definitely not for everyone, but for me it could save me the trouble of buying a new iPP if I damage mine accidentally when using it out on a construction site.

Yep. Especially so if one is in the habit of getting LTE and maxing out storage. $400-600 for out of warranty repair is pretty steep for older tech but one may not necessarily want to spend $1000+ for a new model with similar configuration.

Could always just cancel it when ready to upgrade.

Good advice. One of my cats knocked over the nightstand lamp, and it hit my iPad Pro 11 and cracked the screen. The iPad works just fine in all respects, but the screen is ugly with all the cracks. Since it still works, I'm just going to wait until the new 2020 models come out to replace it.
