Im thinking about to get a new IPad.
I also want to use it as Backup for photos when Im in Holiday.

my question:
when Im import the raws to the iPad from my Camera, can i make a copy from the Raws on a external ssd for a second backup?

I just transferred a 996MB file to my 500GB T5 SSD in 20 secs. from 2018 12.9 Pro (13.4.1).

Most flash drives write slow. I've used some USB 3.0 sticks that write slower than USB 2.0 portable HDD.

I mean, that isn't exactly great performance. I just copied a 2GB folder of files to a samsung 860 in an external enclosure in 4 seconds from my mac mini.

I'd call a factor of 10 difference slow like @jb68 did.

For what I do with an iPad, which will never be used to transfer a huge amount of data, it's fast enough for me. When I do need to move data like that, I'll use a laptop or desktop as you did.

Tried a larger data set - 330 files, 24GB - and it took 5 minutes, or about 12.5 sec/GB.

Buy a Samsung T5 SSD (the new T7 is not necessary) but it will be everything worth.
