Hello,

I switched on my iPad Pro 9.7" this morning after charging over night as usual. Instead of the battery saying 100% it shows 99%.

What is going on? The iPad is only 8 months old so I hope there isn't any battery issues starting.

Thanks

It doesn't necessarily mean there are battery issues. It's called trickle charging. Apple explains this on their website.

Try power down the iPad and charging it while it's off. Then power it back on. You should be at 100%. Otherwise, wear the battery down to about 50% and then recharge.

Thanks for the reply. I always completely turn off the iPad and charge overnight. I usually drain most of the battery during the day or at the very least over 50%.

Considering I already do this I was surprised to see it show 99% when I powered on the iPad in the morning before even removing the charger.

I hope it isn't battery issues but I will see what happens tomorrow morning.

Apple can also do a battery diagnostic for you as well if your iPad doesn't not fully charge back to 100%.

Again this morning I power on the iPad and it shows 99% battery after a full night connected to the charger. I left it connected to the charger and a minute later it says 100%.

This still leaves me feeling a bit unsettled about the battery.
Do I have to take the iPad to Apple Store for a battery diagnostic or can I call up Apple and this diagnostic information be acquired over the Internet through the privacy / diagnostics settings?

You will have to take it to Apple for a battery diagnostic for testing I believe. I would call ahead and see what they say before you make an appointment.

Have it checked by Apple but a battery displaying 99% is not uncommon. I have experienced this with a couple Macs and some iOS devices as well.

Day 3 and it seems to be back to normal - 100% charged at power on. I will keep an eye on it as would rather not make an unnecessary trip to the Apple Store.

Thanks for your help.

This is completely normal. More likely than not, your battery charged to 100% and then slowly discharged a little. It will start charging again after it drops down to around 96%. This helps to prevent the lipo battery from overcharging which would damage the lipo cells or even cause a fire.

Don't worry, it's doing what it was designed to do.
