My iPad Pro arrived this morning and I've been using it all day. I've noticed that some of the animations drop frames, such as opening/exiting the app switcher and folders. Considering how powerful it was made out to be, this shouldn't really be occurring.
It could be fixed with the 9.2 update though which has resolved my 6s Plus lag issues, mostly. It's to be expected though because the screen resolution is much higher than the A9 devices yet it doesn't benchmark THAT much higher, meaning I think that the device physically can't handle the animations smoothly.

I had some lag issues after installing all of my apps. Powered down and restarted and solved the lag issues I was having.

I am having lag issues and I have tried the powering down and restarting. I did not set up from a previous ipad but started fresh. The lagging is a bit off-putting

Does it seem take forever for anyone else to swipe in from right edge of screen before split view menu pops up?

For the first day mine was laggy. I attribute it to the process of restoring from an iCloud backup of my old iPad. Once it was completed, the next day was smooth as silk. This is so far the fastest iPad I've ever used. Web pages snap open - no visible rendering.

I tested the iPad Pro in the store and indeed the app switcher is still stuttering. iOS 9.1 is to blame. I'm using 9.2 beta 3 on my Air 2 and its night and day. Smooth as butter. Not even an A10X or an A11, etc can fix bad coding and bugs. Ironically iOS 9.0 was much smoother until they crippled iOS devices with 9.1. Two years into this redesign and they still can't get animations running smoothly. People with the iPhone 6S plus get to use force touch with full 10fps animations. Tested that in the store too and it's a freaking joke. iOS 9.2 fixes most of that too.

If you want the better experience now just get into the public beta program and get on 9.2 beta 3. It's been my daily driver all week and I'm a heavy iPad user. It's running great and I think we will see public release next week. By the time thanksgiving comes around they won't be doing any updates till after the new year most likely.

The guy who runs the MFI gaming site AfterPad was chatting to me the other day. He has a Pro after using an Air 2 and he said the Pro lags in all the same places as the Air 2 and, like the Air 2, the lag is fixed in iOS 9.2 beta 3.

iOS 9 and metal are just taking some time being optimised, but Apple are working on it at a good pace.
