Hi,
I know it’s quite early to make assumptions about this, but in your opinion would it be possible that Apple Intelligence will be implemented on iPad Pro M4 or it’s already limited by the hardware?

Thanks!

No Selection
No assumptions needed. The iPad Pro M4 was build/designed around Apple intelligence. it is present on Apple's official website.

The M2 and M1 model iPads will also support Apple Intelligence when launched.

Agreed.

Haven’t tested it extensively (will get a better experience come December in the UK) but seems to work just fine on my iPad Air M1.

Yes, this was mentioned previously I thought? Part of the reason for getting the M4 was to take full advantage of these new features

It has the most powerful SoC on any device right now so its definitely not limited by the hardware!

my question was not relevant to power itself (multi, single core or GPU) but to the fact that it may be missing something in the architecture for example.

In any case, I checked on the site and it’s listed among the compatible devices, as you all suggested, thanks.

Unfortunately, no support for my iPhone 14 pro 😢 despite in some aspect the SoC is more powerful than M1 (single core) but evidently it’s not enough

I believe the more important factor is RAM, and Apple have stated that Apple Intelligence needs 8GB to run effectively. This is why the 15 Pro can run it as it has 8GB RAM, but the regular 15 models have 6 GB RAM. The A16 Chip in the 14 Pro is more than powerful enough, but is limited by its 6 GB RAM. The M1 like all M chips have a minimum 8GB RAM.

That’s correct, I think they said when iOS18 was unveiled that all the features would only be available on the 16, with the 15 getting some.

Perhaps this is why the 16 has also got the camera button, so there’s a visible hardware upgrade to help soften the blow. Pure speculation of course, and I may be entirely wrong. But I’m coming from the 14PM and the camera button, action button, and AI comparability make me feel like it’s a decent bundle to upgrade to. I’m also looking forward to the USB-C as my iPad and AirPods also use that connection and the iPad can charge the iPhone.

my upgrade cycle is much longer… 5-6 years… i was forced to buy the iPhone 14 pro because the old one was very unreliable with heating issues, otherwise i would have waited for the 15. Now i’ll upgrade for the 18-9 i think 😂 luckily the iPad M4 would compensate for some lacks, although it’s less convenient ‘cause it’s not always with me as the iPhone

I’m currently using an iPad Pro M4 13 inch and have been using the iPadOS 18.1 betas. As long as you’re not based in China or the EU you can use Apple Intelligence. If you’re outside the US. Just set your device and Siri Language to English US and your up and running. It’ll be coming to other languages starting in December with 18.2

I’m in the EU, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately changing the location (i don’t think that simply the language would do the trick) messes up with Apple Music and other subscriptions

It will likely get bogged down by limited RAM in the next year or two if 8gb is the minimum RAM required. Apple has done this kind of “tactic” in the past As well. The NEXT iPad Pro will likely run AI much better and this years’ version will be crippled when it is fully released.
