Hi all,

Thinking about replacing my 4th gen air 4 (A14) with either an M4 air or pro.

I like to read comics on my iPad, so the pro would be nice because it has an oled screen. I imagine it would also feel like more of an upgrade than just going to another air.

My dilemma is that the pro only has 8gb ram compared to 12gb on the air.

I know we can’t predict the future, but what do you all think about this in terms of longevity? Shall I just bite the bullet and get the pro for the oled?

I was in the same boat as you. I was going to get the M4 Air, but I found a great deal on the M4 Pro with 512GB of storage for the same price as the 256GB M4 Air.

I upgraded from an M1 Air, and the screen is an incredible difference. Also, Face ID is more convenient than I was expecting on an iPad. I sometimes still find myself reaching for the button for touch ID just out of habit, but Face ID is very nice.

If you can get a good price on the M4 Pro, I'd go pro.

The RAM isn’t that noticeable for most folks. Yes you’ll see fewer reload, but ultimately I think the screen and FaceID make a much more noticeable difference. I wouldn’t think twice about getting the M4 Pro over the M4 air.

Get the iPP M4 for the incredible display and face id like others have said. Just be mindful that if you have a MKB for your air 4, its not compatible with the iPP M4, you will have to fork out another £250 for the new mkb for the iPP.

Air M4 is also really good but it’s practically identical to your current iPad apart from the big performance boost.

As other's have said, the additional RAM would be nice, but not necessary. 8GB is the new minimum for the iOS/iPadOS in my opinion, but it runs well and I have no issues on my iPad mini and had no issues on my old iPad Pro with only 8GB.

The benefits you get with the Pro outweighs that additional 4GB handily. The entire iPad exists for the screen and the iPad Air display is handedly outmatch by the iPad Pro's OLED display in every way.
