Even if iPadOS doubles in size you should be fine I think

Thank you for your advice. Just want to make sure the memory doesn’t get filled up in 3-5 years
No one can truly predict what will happen in 3-5 years, but based on your usage, and based on prior history, my best judgement is that you'll be fine. I made the same choice based on similar usage, but I'm looking to upgrade in 3.
Still, given that I bought 256 in 2017, 256 in 2022 and 256 in 2025 and haven't seen a huge increase in consumption, I think you'll be fine. iPad just doesn't use as much space as a Mac, particularly if you keep stuff in iCloud.
IOS updates always seem to eat away the memory over the years. I really want the IPP to last as long as possible as it is such a lot of money to treat oneself. I think I’ve got a lot out of my iPad Air 2 and still using it right now! It now not being supported by certain apps (eBay, Disney +) is annoying and just a cleaver way Apple do to try and force you to upgrade 🤔
Do you have any other tips/comments before I buy the IPP? All your comments have been most helpful.
I wondered if the product will be in the NY sales. Being a premium Apple product I doubt it’ll be reduced in price. Maybe a 0% apr interest payment option.
While iOS firmware does grow over time, I don't think it will affect the 256GB M5 iPad Pro during its useful life.
We have a 64GB iPad 9 (spare and beta testing). I can't really use it for games and media or install lots of apps but for just streaming apps and cloud-based usage, it's still enough.
I did trade in my 64GB iPad mini 6 as I use more storage on the mini. I think I was down to 4GB free on that one due to emulation ROMs.
Yes my iPad Air 2 is 64GB I think, and still has 10-15 GB free I think. As I mentioned in an earlier post some apps already don’t work on it (due to how old it is) like eBay, Disney +. More will follow suit I guess but for now, it still does the job pretty much for my basic needs.
I think for me getting the IPP 13” will be a game changer. It does look very slick.
On the fence a bit re the Magic Keyboard (£350). However I’m sure I’ll enjoy using it, just wondering how much use it’ll get! The black smart Apple folio case seem a safe bet for everyday protection, despite the £100 whack! Also wondering whether the 256 is the right option. Judging by everyone’s helpful opinions on here it seems to be.
If your 64GB Air 2 was running iOS 18 or newer, I reckon you’d be getting out of space messages whenever there’s a major firmware update.
With that said, my dad has similar usage as what you’ve described and he’s at 50% used on his 128GB iPad.
This is to be seen, as it depends on models and structure used for AI in Apples eco system. There is no monetary value in buying hardware for this in advance, especially withthe price tag Apple calls for.
Buy what you need now, update when the needs change.
Same but got such a good deal, a M5 in same specks would of been 3 x the price.
iPad is more of a consumption device than a MacBook replacement especially the 11". I have over 200gb photos and videos and prefer to have them on board than rely on wifi to view them, even though I have 2TB iCloud for family back ups.
Where did you get such a great deal from? I’d be most interested to learn more. Not sure which country you bought in. I live in the UK.
Was a deal in Australia from Officeworks a retailer. Got lucky should of bought a few lol
yep 11" 2TB Nano wifi, $1,195AUD, same model in M5 is $3,649 which is ridiculous imo.
Big jump from a mini 7, I tried a M5 256gb when they came out wasn't that impressed for the $ and returned it.
Ahh I see. Interesting you chose the 11”. Couldn’t agree more with the ridiculous cost of the M5 pricing.
For me going for the bigger 13" seems more tempting as will benefit from the bigger screen with streaming, reading news etc. Not one size is right for all I guess. Also coming from an air 2 a massive jump in size!

I have a 256GB iPhone 16 pro with about 100GB life and a 512 GB Samsung galaxy S25 ultra with about 280gb left. I have a 512Gb iPad Pro. Could I live with 256 sure could but I went with the 512gb I probably would of gotten the M4 1tb if I saw the Costco price before I got the M5 at best buy. The M4 is good enough for me and 1tb would have been nice to have just because. I rather have the space then worry about not having space especially with how bad iOS/ipadOS is with managing space in apps. On Android I could clear caches but with iOS you’ll need to delete the app if the App doesn’t allow it inside their setting.
For laptops sure with how they operate I agree. But with tablets 8 is more than fine for a lot of people. I wouldn’t suggest people to spend that money to get the 16Gb if that’s the only reason to spend it . I rather keep my money. As long as Costco has the 11 inch M4 1tb for $1000 sure that’s a good deal and at that point if you can afford it go for it but I wouldn’t spend the extra $500 for the M5 iPad Pro if you’re only buying it for 16 gb of ram and all you’re doing it watching Netflix and playing candy crush. I would much rather buy the Magic Keyboard with that savings of not buying the 1tb. Or adding cellular.

Either M4 or M5 device seem very good IPP and are at the top of their game it appears. Very little to separate their preference for the ‘average’ user it seems, which I think I fall into.
My basic usage falls under watching Netflix, web browsing and reading online newspapers mainly. No candy crush for me 😉. In fact I haven’t played games for many years now despite having spent my childhood enjoying Nintendo & PlayStation for many years.
it usually comes down to budget what you deem as necessary. Longevity is important for me (as IPP are such an expensive outlay) and usually looking to get the top of the range (like I did when upgrading from iPhone X to 16 PM). I haven’t regretted it (despite the extra weight snd size) and went from 256 to 512 gb knowing it would be overkill but at least give me peace of mind.
I wish a retailer in UK would offer 0% apr monthly payments when buying IPP as it’s such a lump (£1300 - £1,400+) to pay upfront.
