As the title suggests, are there any rumors/release date of the next ipp? I currently own a m4/1tb/wifi-cellular ipp..
Will there be a new display to get excited about? Only get about 8 hours on battery, looking for improvement. Will there be a new cellular chip?

I use my ipp heavily for all the usual reasons, slide show movie creation, photo editing, tv show/movie watching and a lot of laptop replacement chores. Looking for any improvements that will affect my use case.

When would be the release date? Any thoughts on price?

Anyone else looking for a new ipp?

If it has a vapor chamber it's an instant buy for me. I think the m6 chip will push the gpu power to 90-100k on Geekbench. Which means that it will be on par with a M1 Max which means that it will be close to current gen consoles

Don't expect one before 2027, it's on an 18 month upgrade cycle. Also I would not expect major hardware updates, Apple tends to do them every 3 generations

The M5 IPP is relatively new, I wouldn't expect a refresh for a while.

With rumors suggesting the next iPad mini 8 later this year & M5 iPad Airs next year will be getting single panel OLED screens & possibly 120hz pro motion… it should be interesting to see what features the M6 iPad Pros in 2027 get to make them worth the higher price compared to the Air. 🤔 Yes the Tandem OLED screens will still be brighter than the single panel OLED screens. But is that enough to make people choose the more expensive M6 iPad Pro? I’m sure nano texture will still be exclusive to the pros & they’ll still have a faster thunderbolt port. But what else? Anything new? Probably more ram than the Air & of course the M6 chip will be faster. But it seems like the gap btwn the Air & the Pro ipads will be narrower than ever next year.

The iPad Pro has been on a 1.5 year release schedule for a while now. So, we’re about a year out from the next generation if tradition holds.

  • M1: May 2021
  • M2: October 2022
  • M4: May 2024
  • M5: October 2025

The vapor chamber and M6 are the only rumored upgrades so far. Probably could anticipate C2X modem assuming it’s being released in the iPhone 18 Pros later this year.

MacRumors does a good job with their Buyer’s Guide and Roundup for questions like these.

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, but lately I've been thinking about whether the iPad lineup gets the same treatment as the iPhone lineup. We have really already passed the point where the iPad Air can be without an OLED ProMotion screen. It's getting ridiculous now and Apple will have to do the same thing with it that they did with the default iPhone. Next year it will have been a decade since the iPad Pro got ProMotion.

Once that finally moves down to the iPad Air, what is the differentiator between the Air and the Pro? One thing I see happening is Apple makes the Pro thicker and adds a second port and a VC, while giving it the design language of the current Pro iPhone lineup, emphasizing a more rugged design that prioritizes function over form. This would also follow the trajectory of the MacBook Pro design since the M-series chips were released, going from a thin, sleek laptop with two ports to a thicker and heavier design with multiple ports.

The iPad Pro can't get thinner and the camera is irrelevant in this device, so the way forward should be more power and performance, with the iPad Air actually earning the name and being the thinner and lighter of the two.

I also use the M4 ipad pro (13 inch model if it matters). When I bought it I was wowed by its thinness but to me there must be some huge compromises made to get the battery useable in this form factor.

So fast forward a year, two years, or three, and I may not be satisfied with the battery life of the device. For me the metric is “can I comfortably make it through a 2 hr chorus rehersal and 1.5 hr performance viewing my music without a recharge?”

But from a storage perspective I have barely touched the 1TB I needed to get the antiglare display. The RAM I have seems almost limitless for my uses. The CPU is fast and the cameras work well. So it will definitely be the aging of my battery that pushes me off this ipad, probably in 2028 or 2029.

With iPhone fold and the touch screen MacBook coming out that leaves the iPad Pro in a weird position. Apple will be forced to open up the os a little bit to make that device still worth it. Give it a terminal, support for the major IDE's and better gaming support and I think it will live on despite the os being closed compared to macOS.
