Hello,

I got my mom an iPad Pro mainly for her to watch movies and tv shows on netflix. And she usually likes watching them in bed. She use to use her Macbook, which she would lay on the mattress or uneven covers and just watch.

Now with the iPad pro it's more complicated because the Smart Cover requires a flat-ish surface for it to act as a stable stand. The bed and covers along with a person changing position occasionally makes the iPad tilt over and fall with the Smart Cover.

There really are tons of products out of there. If anyone has any experience with a specific cover or stand or cover/stand that works well in bed with the iPad pro, let me know!

Thanks,

Nick

This works really well:

OP I know exactly what you are talking about because that's how I've always used my iPad in bed. With my iPad2 I had a cover that folded like an inverted V so I could adjust the spread to get it to how I wanted it to sit on the bed/covers/my stomach.

For whatever reason the newer iPad Pros have different covers all with varying segmented folds in them. I currently have Apple's silicone case and smart cover on my iPP and the tri-segmented cover doesn't work that well in bed on it's own because the base it folds into for the stand portion is too narrow to form a good base. Sounds like that's your mom's set up too. Works okay on a table but not so great in bed. From cover/stands I looked at I think something like this (see below link) that forms a large flat base might be the best case/stand for the bed use if she wants a different solution to her smartcover.

Right now I'm using an old Logitech lapdesk pad (N315) that I set my device on for a solid base for my smartcover. Fits on it nicely with an extra inch on each side of my iPad. Not ideal but it works, is lightweight, thin and easy to store and provides a non-slip surface for the cover to rest on. Something like this to think about since she already has a smartcover.

BTW I have seen some ridiculous prices on my Logitech lapdesk on ebay and amazon. Mine's gray with a pink pullout tray and I'm positive I bought mine for under $20 at a TJMaxx a year or so ago. Here's what it looks like and sure anything like it would work too: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Portable-Lapdesk-N315-Dusty/dp/B003JZC7CW
Saw this and it retailed for $30: http://www.cnet.com/products/logitech-n315-portable-lapdesk/
BTW I use the lapdesk when I pull out my rMBP since it can generate some good heat. Perhaps a lapdesk could do double duty for your mom's iPP and Macbook?

Are you in the UK?

I just ask because I've currently got a case that would be perfect for what you're looking for. And as I don't need it it's going free to a good home (it's basically brand new, it got used for a single night for a couple of hours. Was supposed to be a stand in while I waited on my other order, which Sod's law, arrived the next day.)

It looks like you're being straddled by a giant robotic spider. I find this unsettling.

I hope we all find the thought of being straddled by any form of spider that size unsettling. Or any spider for that matter, although these days you just never know what weird shenanigans people are into :D

If this is still available, I'd sure like to take it off your hands (I'm in the UK).

These are great recommendations, I will check them out. Currently I use a triangle stand and three pillows for the iPAD to be in a good height, which is about 13.7 in (or 35 cm). I wonder if this TStand or similar products can hold the iPAD that high.

I used the Targus Versavu case when I had my Pro. I normally would either sit the iPad up against a pillow or angled to my liking based on the cases creases. Worked perfectly for me.

Ordered this TStand and will let you know when it arrives, I . I have the IPP 9.7.

It seems this can accept the iPAD with its covers.

The website can only ship to 41 countries so far, I had to use a freight forwarder.

So far, TStand have not even sent my order. I contacted Sean Kieley at least three times and he gave me explanations and excuses, but didn't refund or sent me a tracking number. From what I understood, if I had asked through Amazon, it would be much faster. Still, that doesn't justify things, so I opened a PayPal dispute.

I also came across this link with a few complaints: https://www.facebook.com/Tstandd/

Sean is either a very disorganized and busy person (perhaps with more order requests than he could imagine? Then again, how hard it is to build and ship these things?) or a scammer. If he doesn't give me a solution ASAP I'll escalate the PayPal dispute. I am aware international orders take time, however mine has a California address, from a freight forwarder called Shipito.

So my advise is to never order from the site (instead, try Amazon), or, if you need to, don't forget to use PayPal, which gives you up to 45 days (not 180) to file a dispute. I still hope this can be solved and I receive my Tstand.

For the record, Sean replied to the PayPal dispute and provided me with the tracking number:

His message:

Thank you for supporting Tstand! In each product detail in our online store, we ask that our supporters please allow 4 - 6 weeks for delivery. It looks like you purchased on July 4. We will be able to deliver within the time frame specified.

Your order was sent out last week. It takes us a couple of weeks to receive tracking information from the shipping carrier, and then to post it online for our supporters. Unfortunately, we are a very small team of people (only 3), and we are doing our best to make sure our supporters are updated and that the tracking information is uploaded in a timely manner.

Please continue to check this link for your tracking no.: http://tstand.com/ipad-holder-tracking.html . It should be up by the end of the week.

Thank you for your patience. It won't be long before your order arrives!

I confirmed that my freight forwarder received, and I already paid for it to send to my country. It can take up to 20-45 days, but sure it will take longer once I have to deal with customs. Once the item is here, I'll post a review.

I opened the package today, after more than a year of a legal battle against the import fees that were imposed (I won the right to not pay anything to customs). Unfortunately I used the worst method of doing this, which is to go to court without paying these fees, so the product was there all this time, I should have paid what was asked and then demanded the money back, at least I would have received the package a year ago, and wouldn't have to wait all this time. My payment was confirmed July 4, 2016.

I have two iPAD Pros 9.7 here, both with Silicone cases and the Smart Cover.

Two videos from this product and some photos:

Well, first of all, there's no way a single person can attach the iPAD without asking for another person to hold it while two hands open and attach. It holds firmly to the iPAD.

The downside is that now I can't turn my iPAD off by just closing the Smart Cover. I configured the iPAD to automatically turn off after 15 minutes (2 to 15 or "Never" are the options).

By doing this I only have to press the Home button twice. And, of course, to preserve this iPAD since its naked screen is now always open, I store it in my wardrobe.

In my opinion it can't be good to remove the iPAD everyday from the TStand, that will certainly make the whole thing not last and since it's not exactly easy to attach it again, I will just leave as it is now.

As for using in the bed, before the TStand I arranged 3 pillows and that triangle stand, now I only need 1 or 2 for this job, and the TStand doesn't wobble spoiling the fun while it's over me. So far I am pleased with the product and recommend it.

When I bought it cost 42 USD and was being sold in Amazon and the official site.

Note: this is what the "triangle stand" I always had looks like:

P.S. And more photos, this time in the "table-mode" as described in the package. I only had to slightly adjust as showed here:

I think this "mode" is better than the other one (the iPAD was distant from my eyes in the "bed mode").

Compare these last pictures with the previous ones I uploaded.

This is a recording I made using the iPAD on the bed:

In this way it's modified to be used in a desk, not in a bed, however I find this configuration better.

I use one pillow below the stand, and this one in particular makes it wobble a little because it's made of latex, which means:

- These pillows are not entirely stable as they tend to have at least some spring or bounce. A few owners report this characteristic to be a disadvantage because, in their words, it feels like having one's head on a balloon or big rubber ball.

- A "moldable" pillow is one whose shape can be easily altered or scrunched to increase comfort and support. Moldability tends to not be a strength of latex pillows since they spring back to shape and are often fairly dense. However, soft varieties (my case) are the most easily moldable.

Only at 1m15s you can see the iPAD not moving too much to the sides while the Tstand is over me (which isn't something uncomfortable). This is how it works most of the time.

And while it appears I am too distant from the screen, I can assure this isn't the case and how I perceive it has no difference from what I was getting with my other triangle stand (while also in bed).

I think the Tstand is better since I had to use three pillows before. Of course this is more suitable for videos, I'll put the stand in my desk when needing to read.

And like I said, only buy this if you have no intentions of continue using the portrait mode. I don't think it's a good idea to detach the iPAD from it unless there's really some need.
