iPad Pro Smart Connector Potential?

I understand that this new Smart Connector will mate the Apple keyboard to the iPad Pro. Could these connectors be used for some kind of peripheral or display docking?

Eventually. I bet Apple will have some sort of MFi type program to certify 3rd party use of the connector.

The connector has 3 pins, you aren't going to send a lot of data over that when you need to carry power too.
