hi all, i want to purchase an ipad with cellular, and i want to put my unlimited verizon sim in it, i heard i can activate the hotspot feature without paying the hotspot fee is this true?

ever since the ipad 1 came out, the only company in the united states that offered unlimited for the ipad was AT&T. I'm skeptical verizon would allow an unlimited sim card in an ipad. it might not work. all is not lost.the ipad is unlocked. shop around, you could get a prepaid sim , or a free t-mobile sim

i never heard of any cellular company except AT&T offering unlimited for iPads.

the next best thing to unlimited would be a post paid T-mobile account 6 gb or more for $35. this would give you binge on unlimited music and video streaming and a data stash of 20 gigs and tethering.

please don't decide not to buy it based on anything i say, try it and find out

however, if verizon won't enable the hotspot feature, there is nothing you can do to enable it, without jallbreaking. and running a hotspot app from other app stores.

if verizon catches you using that app. it might mean doom, they might cancel your service.

i heard t-mobile started to crack down on those hotspot apps and they were able to find people that use them and they lower their plan

a cellular iPad does not need to be attached to your iPhone plan. this gives you the perfect opportunity to try other carriers like AT&T, sprint, veriozn, t-mobile, etc etc

you could keep each one for a month , cancel. and come back

the apple sim ( in the air 2 ) would give you 200 mb for free on t-mobile to play around with

As a person who has the VZW legacy unlimited data PHONE plan, along with the Loyalty discount... The simple answer is YES. It works! The wifi hotspot feature works, too, and will not charge you an extra fee. But... And this is the kicker, you don't want to call customer service at all with the SIM chip in the iPad because they will take notice of that and switch your plan on you!

Please take note of this!!! Make sure that the SIM chip is put back into a phone when you call customer service for any needs on the account.

I have Verizon unlimited on my iPhone but it's the old Nationwide plan so in order for me to activate a personal hotspot I would need to add that to my plan because when I try to activate a personal hotspot on my iPhone it says I first need to add it to my account so when I go into my account settings through Verizon it says a personal hotspot will cost me $23.00 a month, so to use my celluar iPad on a personal hotspot with my unlimited plan will cost me an additional $23.00 a month. I'm not paying that.

Have you actually tried using it on your iPad? I also have to pay to use the hotspot on my phone, but for some reason it doesn't check if I pay for hotspot on my iPad.

thanks for all the replies guys, i too have the nationwide 700 minutes plan, and it said i need to buy hotspot feature on my iphone. however i stumble upon this thread

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/verizon-4g-lte-ipad-with-verizon-4g-phone-sim-card.1336647/

but was not sure if it still applies since that thread is quite old and alot of things might've changed since.

so i guess my new question is would it work on the nationwide 700 minutes plan that normally would require you to buy the hotspot feature for like 30 bucks a month? without paying 30 bucks?

Put it in your iPad, there are no additional charges. Don't call customer service without changing the SIM though.
