I have seen old posts about this but no resolutions.

I have a iPad Air 3 with the Smart Keyboard cover. I’m on ipados 13.5 but this issue has been going on long before that. Intermittently the keyboard will freeze in the sense that if I press the key, it will not input a response. But the iPad still recognizes the keybaord is connected because the onscreen keyboard will not show up when this happens. It happens randomly, on any app, and no real fix for it. The only workaround I have found is to disconnect the ipad from the keyboard physically and reattach it or turn off and on the ipad. I have done the usual thing and making sure the pins and connectors are clean.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Have you attempted to ask Apple for a replacement Smart Keyboard?

This. Get the serial number for the keyboard ready and contact Apple.

By chance do you randomly get an odd error pop up related to usb accessories ? Can’t recall the error message from memory but I was asked whether I saw such error messages by Apple when I had issues with my Smart Keyboard. The tech seemed to indicate that the error was a dead giveaway that something was wrong with the keyboard.

Nope I have not seen that error.

I have not contacted Apple. I thought it might be a software glitch or something...guess thats my next step.

Annoyingly enough, there are no apple stores that are open near me or any time soon. I can go to an authorized repair shop but the process is to just mail it to apple and wait a few weeks for them to look at it and mail it back. It’s a bummer since I use this for work a lot. I may just wait it out.

Thanks

When I had issues with my Smart Keyboard I contacted Apple via online chat and worked things out that way. They offered to ship me a replacement keyboard immediately. I provided CC info just in case I didn’t return the old one and a keyboard was shipped to me. I shipped back the old one in the box using the prepaid label from them and once they received it the hold on my CC was removed.
