Just curious. I can see gf and I laying on the bed watching a movie or show through the iPad. Just curious if any reviewers mentioned the iPad speaker volume?

For reference I am wondering is it louder than the iphone 3gs?

i would hope so! the speaker (and it's tiny) in my BB is very loud. its about time apple stepped up to the plate when it comes to internal speaker loudness. my touch's speaker is pathetic.

Yes, several have mentioned it and the reviews were very positive.

All said that they were very surprised on how good they sounded and how loud they were. One reviewer I saw earlier said that it sounded so good, he put it up against his Macbook Pro for a side by side comparison and while the Macbook Pro won, he said that the fact that he was even compelled to try it out said how good the speakers are.

Hmm... The speaker grill does look bigger than the iPhone.. However that has no correlation to audio volume. Here's hoping. If any of you could please update this thread on saturday in your impressions of audio volume compared to the iPhone that would be a big help!

Thanks

Crazy, is this from one of the major outlets?

Not true, it is stereo.

The speakers are too close to each other to pick up difference in each channel, but it was confirmed that it is stereo so no sound is lost.

And yes, it was Andy Ihnatko that compared it to his Macbook and said it was almost as good.

This is good news.

One of my biggest complaints with the iPhones have always been the speakers.

I assume with the larger form factor they have got better speakers in there.

Not just that, but the Andy guy presumed that they may even have a big air cavity inside for the speaker to resonate, it sounds that good. He said that you can feel the iPad vibrate when watching a movie from the sound.

Several reviews I have read have said, that the speaker quality was good. If you read the review by Edward Baig, David Pogue and Walt Mossberg, and also PCMag you'll find that most if not all mention the speakers as being good, nothing excellent but enough to play loud sound without it sounding crappy.

Could you pipe over the sound via blue tooth receiver speakers. That would be wicked to listen to a movie in bed in stereo.

Apple specs and all official Apple videos (including the keynote) that I've seen said speaker and not speakers. No information would be lost using mono since it is just mixed. Were is the corroboration that Apple is wrong about the iPad only having a speaker?

Two speakers... one of them might be a microphone, just like on the iPhone. It's an easy mistake to make to assume that it's stereo, whilst it can be mono.

Then I guess Apple hasn't been able to get their hands on one yet to do a tear down to know for sure.
No need for sarcasm, I was only saying what I read... which conveniently I can't find now.

The mic is up the top near the headphone jack according to the PC mag review.
The review by Baig also says it has a single speaker that isn't stereo, so I guess I was wrong, I still read it had two speakers that were stereo somewhere though.
Look at iPad Specs page under Accesibilty, it says mono audio
I'm pretty sure that just means you can change the sound output to mono, my 3GS has that option.

The more I look at the singular, the more I think that it's mono. How can a small device match the stereo quality of the MacBook Pro that is larger too? The MBP has room to include a natural amplifier channel.

I still put my iPhone into a glass, when I'm in the bathroom. Otherwise it wouldn't be loud enough.

Actually your replied to me was Not True as if I was passing on inaccurate information. Also you said it was confirmed 2 speakers when you should have said something like "I seem to remember reading in one of the reviews that it was stereo...".;)

Andy Inatko's review talked about the speakers at the end of the broadcast yesterday. He said it was pretty comparible to his macbook's speaker. He said it sounded surprisingly well.:apple:

So, I don't like sarcasm unless used in a joking context, and even then not so much. I don't mind if you tell me I'm wrong though.

From my perspective, I was thoroughly sure based on appearance and some article I read that the iPad has two speakers at the bottom right and is stereo, if I wasn't sure I would have written something as you suggested, but I was.

Yet, I was still wrong. :D
