Am I being dumb (the answer is “yes, probably”). However, a quick search found a reddit post from a year ago with everyone complaining about this lack of feature.
I’ve just got a new Studio Display. It’s great. Setup simple and works amazingly with my Macbook Pro (which is the primary use case). The speakers are a nice touch and add a couple of use cases I wasn’t expecting. Whilst I mostly plan on using it for work I found myself trying using it for video playback. I also thought I would try out with my iPad. I use my ipad pro m4 + magic keyboard the whole time, especially when I travel (even more so now that I upgraded from an Air to a MBP).
I’ve notice that the volume with my iPad is significantly lower than the volume with my MacBook (tested same video with both set to maximum). This is not a massive issue. However, there’s a very irritating problem whereby my iPad goes to sleep with inactivity even though it is playing video on the studio display, the video playback then ends (this is using Apple’s own TV app in Mainstage). The “fix” appears to be to disable autolock. This is dumb. Really dumb.
If I build my own app and use Apple’s AVPlayer I can set preventsDisplaySleepDuringVideoPlayback to true. Some 3rd party apps definitely do this. But there appears to be no way to set this on Apple’s own app???
