Engadget notes that a pair of filings for the iPad have appeared in the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's online database, showing the Wi-Fi (Model A1219) and Wi-Fi + 3G (Model A1337) versions of the device.
Apple, of course, has a track record of timing its FCC filings perfectly so that virtually nothing is revealed before Cupertino wants it to be, and frankly, you're not going to get much here that you didn't already know -- the photographs (both external and internal) and the user manual are both still under confidentiality. Both units were tested for WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth, while one -- model number A1337 -- adds in GSM 850 / 1900 and UMTS 850 / 1900, so it appears that Apple has bundled all of its 3G and non-3G models into just two filings regardless of storage capacity.
Both filings are accompanied by requests for 180 days of confidentiality on such exhibits as external and internal photos and user manuals. The reports otherwise offer little information of interest to most observers, serving to share results of radiation emission testing as required by the FCC.

So, if the 3G one has been approved why aren't we seeing it come out on April 3rd. Its really starting to sound like there is in fact a delay in manufacturing ... which is honestly not too uncommon for a new device anyway.

From the Tech Specs Sales page:

Wi-Fi + 3G model

* UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
* GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
* Data only3
* Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
* Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology

Why do US companies forget that the world doesnt end at the sunny shores of california?

What? The earth isn't flat?

They'll make them in multiple bandwidth flavors so the Norwegians can enjoy them in the sun and rain too. ;)

Nice model number!

Yeah, it's geeky, but I couldn't help but notice that Model A1337 is pretty "leet". Coincidence, perhaps, but that is for the WiFi+3G model, top o' the line...

Just to make sure there is no more confusion: The iPad hardware doesn't only support the 2 US frequencies. It's just that since the FCC is only for the US, they are only certifying the frequencies that the iPad radio will use in the US.

Only dual band GSM? And US only frequencies?

Apple was, after all, only applying for FCC approval... that's a U.S. regulatory agency in case you didn't realize it. Whether Apple intends to offer a different model for other countries, or has yet to add other frequencies to these units, is unknown. However it does explain, to some extent, why Apple is not doing a world-wide release at the same time as the U.S. release.

Oh... I didn't catch that. That's a big negative for me...:(

Oh be quiet. An American candy company called Mars stopped selling their "Crispy M&M's" in the USA a few years ago yet Europe and most of Asia still have them. God dammit I miss crispy eminems.

If only Apple were so efficient w.r.t. the product itself. Why this isn't just TWO models with removable, user-exapandle, storage is just GREED. The consumer who buys with 16GB must throw it away to get 64GB? It's ridiculous. Apple should learn from their own behavior (w.r.t. FCC) and just produce exactly TWO models, here, and if they want to get into the FLASH memory business on the side, then so be it, but don't hold us over a barrel if we determine later that we need more space.

Not a new complaint... Certainly one that is overdue for addressing across the iPod/iPhone/iPad line.
