So if you look at the spec sheet here
http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

you get this
"Support for 1024 by 768 pixels with Dock Connector to VGA Adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format"

So I guess if you buy the component cable http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB128LL/B?mco=MTEzNjg4MzA you get in the 480p or 576p although i don't understand which you would. I'd assume you'd always want 576p?? is there a setting?

I own this composite cable that i've used for a while with my ipod touch.
If you buy the composite cable http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB129LL/B
And again ipad specs say 480i or 576i, not sure how to get which.

I bought originally the composite cable for more flexibility. I take it when I travel for hotel rooms, homes I rent, friends homes etc. Much more likely to have composite available (1 yellow for video and red/white for audio) than component. Although the progressive i'd think would look better.

I really wish there was an HDMI version of this to go 720p out. ideally it'd be a combination composite cable and HDMI with a small switch on the cable so you don't have to carry both. Although of course apple will want you to buy all 3.

Has anyone used this with their ipad yet? I get my 3G on fri.. and didn't get a chance to try with the wifi one when i had it.
