I have an iPad Mini 2, the first Retina model. I have issues with the Home button breaking, so I need a new tablet.

I noticed that my Mini 2 was getting a bit slow and laggy when surfing the web, so I am curious if the base model iPad would be similar or if it would be faster. The iPad is a lot newer, but as far as I understand it is meant to be less expensive so it has less processing power than the others, while the iPad Mini 2 that I have was a bit ahead of it's time.

So will the iPad give me better web surfing? That is all I need it for, just use it around the house to surf the web.

The base iPad is about as powerful as the iPhone 6s (same components) and should be fine to sort the web. I have the 6s, and it works quite well.

iPad Mini 4? Yes, aged now but same form factor you like with 2 generations newer tech. Refurb store pricing ranging from $339-389 for models available as I write this)

Might want to wait out the month, as there are rumors about iPad announcements in MAR. If so, prior generation pricing may slide a bit and there's always a remote chance that an updated Mini might show up (though that seems longshot due to complete lack of rumors).

We have the Mini4 for our six year old. It was too hard/small for me to use. The 12.9 was way too big, the 10.5 is a perfect size. Small enough for me to take everywhere, but not to big that I can't keep on nightstand. :)

Last year’s iPad 9.7” would be quite a bit better than the mini 2. Double the RAM and an A9 chip vs A7. It should be a noticeable improvement, but since there’s a possible refresh in the not-too-distant future, I’d wait for that if possible. It’s always nice to make sure you won’t have to upgrade again anytime soon. Last year’s would be fine, but if this year’s possible refresh has an even faster chip, why not get that one if the price is right?

I recently bought the 2017 iPad for my Dad and it's more than powerful enough for most people's needs.

I surprised myself and recently got the iPad 2017 myself! I hopped on Best Buy's $80 off offer and got a $249 iPad 2017 32GB. Figured at the very least it would be easier to watch videos on this than my iPhone on international flights (I take one for work very soon).

I'm surprised how thicker it is from the Air 2 but very usable - easier to hold nekkid. I like it. For the price, definitely worth it! Going to be my reader/journaling device from now on. Looks like I'm using 11GB fully configured with books downloaded so it's working for me.

It's very smooth and usable on iOS 11 current version. Battery life is nice too. Now I pick up my 8+ and it seems too small.

The 2017 iPad is unbelievably thick when compared to the Air 2. It’s only when you see them together do you realize how big and bulky it really is.
