I think I would enjoy a neo but can’t go backwards with screen technology and I only use my iPad for content consumption.
Going back and forth is not really a big deal, in my opinion. My M4 iMac is specced out completely with a Nano screen and my iPads are all specced out with Nano screens. I recently sold my M4 MBA and now have 2 Neos. The biggest thing I have to get used to when coming back to the Neo, is seeing some reflections on the screen which I dob't see with the Nano screens. Granted the Neo screen is just a shade under the MBA but, let's be honest here. Unless someone is doing color grading work and or editing videos or photos that require precision coloring and edits, browsing the web, watching videos and answering emails on a Neo is fine. I think the people on MR most of the time make a big deal out of everything and paint a bad picture of the real situation and reading get misguided and sent the wrong way.

I traded in my iPad Pro M2 for the MacBook NEO. I already have an M4 MacBook Air. Trying the NEO as a replacement for the iPad.

The MacBook and iPad each have their place. Some can make their iPad their main and or sole device, while others prefer having a mix of Mac and iPadOS. Use whatever makes you comfortable. Don't get caught up with device labels.

I have to agree. My Mac mini, iPad Air and Neo all of their place. All three compliment each other and I have options depending on what I need to do.

So far the Neo is able to do everything the iPad does. I don’t think this kills the iPad but it definitely kills the iPad Pro.

The MacBook Air is less expensive than the iPad Pro+MKB combo and it hasn't killed the iPad Pro yet. I don't think the MacBook Neo will change the calculus much.

At this point in time, I would guess most people have already done their experiments and realized the iPad Pro+MKB isn't a 1:1 MacBook replacement. Those still buying the iPad Pro likely do so for the form factor or Pencil support.

The MacBook Neo can't transform into a tablet so there's that.

The NEO is largely aimed at the EDU market, but there are other potential customers. I think there is a market for people that were trying to "simplify" their tech lives by going iPad only.....but, find the transition and iPadOS too difficult.

Now, the ultimate minimalist set up is the NEO + iPhone SE....maybe add a 1080p 24in Monitor (~$100) for handling large/multiple documents.

iPad is dated now with iPadOS, it’s time for the training wheels to come off with all that horsepower it barley touches.
As an artist, I make a great living on my iPad Pro with it’s lame iPadOS(according to you). I still find it funny how MacOS users bash iPadOS just because it’s not MacOS. When iPadOS is totally fine for millions of professionals such as myself. It’s as if you won’t be satisfied until Apple turns iPadOS into MacOS. 😂 Hey, stick with your MacBook and leave our iPads alone! We love our iPads just the way they are. iPadOS is not underpowered for us at all. We enjoy doing heavy professional artwork on our iPads and we also enjoy doing everything else on our iPads more than we ever did on our MacBooks with it’s clunky and impersonal MacOS! 😂 Seriously. Watching movies on a laptop? Please. Surfing the web on a laptop sucks compared to an iPad. I enjoy editing photos & videos more on my iPad. And writing on my iPad even without a separate keyboard using the digital keyboard is faster, lighter and more convenient than using a laptop. Plus you can also use the Apple pencil to take notes. You can’t do that on a macbook. I think deep down inside, laptop users are just jealous of us iPad users. 😂 They so desperately want the personal touch screen of an iPad but are not willing to make the leap and ditch their macbook. They’re scared to let go. 😱 So they bash iPads to make themselves feel better. Meanwhile us iPad users just laugh cause we are totally content with our iPads just the way they are. 👍🏼

Not for me it doesn't. I want the Pro as I want the excellent tablet that, combined with the MKB, has replaced my laptop. It doesn't kill the Pro.
Know what? You're right, it doesn't replace the iPad for me. I will be returning it this week and gettting a new iPad. I haven't decided if I want the Pro or the Air. I could likely get away with the Air but I am used to the Pro Motion Display.

This is what gets me with the whole iPad vs MacBook discussion;

The iPad, especially now, is viable in many fields and use cases. Home Automation, creating art, organizing your day/life, communication, healthcare, selling, brainstorming, gaming, and so on. I personally also use my iPad as a tool to make my living and it's not underpowered by the OS. Part of that is due to the form factor over a laptop and with the right case, the iPad's screen can be propped up much like a laptop's screen is.

iPadOS has a decent enough file system that's easy enough to reach your documents plus modern iPads let you use external drives now, it's easy enough to hook up a keyboard with bluetooth, but even with that (and more) apparently the iPad simply isn't good enough for many people.

You can quite literally control the lights, thermostat, and music around your house, call your friend from out of state, emulate your favorite retro games, then work on pictures you've taken for your blog or for your eBay store with an iPad yet because the OS works in a different way from macOS, it's an underpowered OS.

I'm not even saying for laptop fans to get an iPad if they don't think it'll work for them either, both have their place. It's just that both can do largely similar things. What makes me want an iPad over a MacBook is that I prefer the form factor + the pencil functionality. Otherwise, it functions much like my other computers that have their own roles in my life.

Apple should make an add saying “I’ve told you”. Since M1 launch Apple has been saying 8Gb should be enough. And some of us have been spending a lot of money “maxing” their Macs without needing to do so.
And now, the same ones are splashing their Neos with grade confidence, being ok with low quality screen and 8Gb of RAM.

The question in my mind is: Have we been spending that money satisfying our egos or our needs?

More ego I am afraid.

I would say a mix of ego and needs depending on individual use cases. I have to agree with @Apple_Robert.
Today I saw this girl editing a smart object in illustrator, saving it and jumping back to photoshop using her Neo. It was a magazine cover, in 300DPI. Honestly I always taught it would be a nightmare of beachballs. But in its story, it was sooooo snappy.

I'm wondering if that huge amount of money I spent in al those extra RAM I have bought was useless.

The low specs of the Neo is surprising people on how well it does. It was never meant to be a replacement for the Air or Pro. And those than need higher specs for their individual work load should get the Air or Pro. The Neo is perfectly fine for the average casual user and students needing to do simple stuff like documents, presentations, spread sheets, etc. And they can still do some photo and video editing with the Neo if they want.

I firmly believe that most users, even (maybe especially) tech enthusiasts overestimate their needs.
