Hi all,

Quick question. I want to connect my ipad2 to my TV via a HDMI cable. If I buy the adapter from the Apple store, will I need it transmit both pictures and sound, or will I need to make separate arrangements for the sound (this is currently the case with my MacBook)?

Cheers

Rob.

Yes, the HDMI cable carries sound. That is part of the specification. It functions the same way the composite or component adapters used to.

What model is your MacBook? Chances are it is just the Display Port (not Thunderbolt) which is only desgined to carry video, not audio. So the HDMI Display Port adapter doesn't actually have audio signal coming out that port. Which is why you still have to route it out the headphone port.

Thanks for the help with the iPad question.

I'm using a late 2007 white MacBook. I use the mini display adaptor with s-video lead. I use a headphone cable for sound with that. Too many wires but it's not the end of the world!
