1) while locked, with smartcover open, hold down power key.

2) close smartcover

3) open smartcover, tap "cancel"

viola. You have just bypassed having to enter security code.

I've confirmed that it works. 🙁
 
For clarity you can't access any apps but apps can be deleted. You are also able to search mail and contacts through Spotlight without actually opening any apps.
