What is the connection from the iPad to the charger? I know the connection at the iPad is lightning, but what is the connector to the charger? USB A? USB C? Lightning?

It comes with a USB-A to Lightning cable and USB-A charger.
If you have other iOS devices that support USB-PD via Lightning and don't wish to carry multiple chargers and cables though, you can certainly use it with a USB-C charger and USB-C to Lightning cable.
