Calc app?
weather app?
widgets?

apple software has to learn to walk and chew gum simultaneously.

Yeah I don't get the reason Federighi stated about the calc app. They don't need to create a fullscreen calculator. Just make a "floating" app sort of like how picture in picture functions....

Correction on the iPadOS search while in apps - this has been supported for years via keyboard shortcut CMD-space will bring up search and allow searching while the app continues to run in the background. Handy for quick calculator/calculations or quick searching.

Any improvement as regards external display support? Or still the same thing: one resolution only with vertical bands on both sides?

Scribble needs to be improved before I use it regularly.. Text fields that are near the bottom of the screen are awkward to write in. Spacing and carriage returns are also a bit odd. I have the MK, but when I use the ipad as a tablet I don’t see myself using scribble much, yet. I’m faster using the onscreen swipe keyboard for input. I am impressed how well it does recognize my less than average handwriting.

I believe you don't have to write directly into the text field. Anywhere close-by will work just as well. This is more for the people who are using the Pencil as the primary input device. It's a nice addition to not have to switch to finger taping and repositioning your pen grip.

I love the new "features" but I am always surprised how adjustments are posited as features. What I mean is something as basic as showing the toolbar all the time, instead of swiping down. It seems that can be a 0.0.x update, as opposed to an entirely new one.

I was also wondering about whether or not the new Search can be brought up in-app through touch gestures. Because there's no Calculator app, I use search constantly to do math on the iPad, and I've always wanted to be able to just pull it up right over the app I'm using.

Also, besides not implementing the App Library and home screen widgets, the HUGE part of iPadOS 14 that is just a tremendous disappointment to me is that Apple completely neglected to solve the absolutely mind-bogglingly horrible process of picking apps for split-screen multitasking. I'm holding out hope that they are waiting to introduce the App Library because they're somehow going to use it as the new app picker for multitasking!
They really do need to revamp initiating split screen. It’s too unintuitive/convoluted for apps not in the dock, and it’s so annoying that it requires long press. Frequent actions should never require long presses.

Any word on external display support so it can be used as a proper laptop replacement for non developers/media editors?

Not directly related to the article, but I have a question: I tried several times to put two Music app windows in Split View on my iPad Pro (I read somewhere that is possible), without luck...any suggestion on how to do it?

Love these videos, especially since I’m not putting beta software on my iPad. It’s my daily driver.

I read a great iPadOS 14 review at the Sweet Setup. The reviewer noted the potential for using the new search function to launch Shortcuts, which was something I hadn’t thought of. Seems like a potentially excellent feature.

Interestingly, he also had some concerns about the new smaller call/Siri interface. Basically, worrying about things like missing Siri activation if he was working in the left app during split screen.

Maybe something has changed in this time to make that "Newton functionality" finally work as it should?
I mean, have you heard the jokes about how bad was the Newton handwriting recognition?

I used to spend sick days at my dad’s office trying to master the specific Newton handwriting.

Can you have two photos app side by side in iPadOS 14?

Despite this being possible with many other Apple apps it was not possible in iPadOS 13.
