I’ve found a few things (until now) which are going to make me downgrade to 14.8

- the floating type ahead thing, it does not auto hide, and when one is using an external keyboard, then it just becomes obnoxious (or worse)
- the springboard layout on iPads, it looks as if they have decided to use the same spacing for LARGE and small icons, could be a bug, but if their quality control is that bad, then I’m afraid of what to come.
- tabs in safari …. what a piece of crap
- auto correct is trying to auto correct correct words (randomly).

(just my opinion)

Why are there now a Games folder and an Arcade folder in the Apps Library. Before the Arcade and non-Arcade games were listed separately. Liked that better.

I’m not a fan of the new look to the apps and how they are all bunched together and the “large apps“ option is just funny. I liked the way there was a page to the left and it didn’t encroach on the other apps. I do like safari so far if it’s only the look is different because safari has looked a bit dated to me. But so far that’s it.

The new Home Screen layout is awful. I had a great look with the Dark Sky weather widget pinned to the Home Screen. Now to access it I have to swipe the Home Screen to the right. I can pin the widget to the Home Screen. Is there a awy to revert to iPadOS 14?

Is anyone else seeing inconsistent app icon spacing?

The first page spacing is the same as on iPadOS 14, but the second page spacing is way smaller. It looks pretty awful.

App spacing is terrible. They had it right with iPadOS 14, then they totally screwed it up with 15. I hope a future update will bring back the iPadOS 14 style grid, or at least give us the option to remove widgets. 15 feels like I've stepped back to when the iPad had a 4x5 (or was it 4x4?) grid on the home screen and was literally just a blown up iPhone. That's what iPadOS 15 feels like to me...a huge step backwards to the iPad-is-just-a-blown-up-iPhone phase.

I really miss the “today view” With the clock and the date. Got to create a widget using widgetsmith to replace it, but it’s not the same. Agree that the spacing between icons is absurd, there’s a lot of screen space wasted.

There is so much space between icons that whether you use regular or large icons the number of apps on the page doesn’t change.

My beefs, in no particular order (on iPad, haven’t done much on the phone yet):

  • The Safari bookmark sidebar in landscape not having the hide button at every level is extremely user hostile. It makes the standard way of managing and interacting with bookmarks in previous versions into a trade off between losing a big (unchangeable) chunk of screen real estate vs. a lot of extra touches/mousing.
  • Also, when the bookmark sidebar is open, you can’t use the swipe to go back a page — that’s not new, but it is now much harder to get that sidebar to go away so you can recover the gesture.
  • The icon spacing, and the way that the update moves stuff around semi-randomly — one of my folders/groups was moved from the first page to the third for no apparent reason…
  • I guess I don’t know if this is a change, but when I’m collecting app icons to move to another screen in ‘jiggle mode’, I can’t select folders/groups, only apps. If I want to move a pile of apps, no problem. If I want to move a group with those apps, nope. Can’t multi select folders/groups.

The home app is insanely buggy. My devices keep disappearing from the app, but then when I click the blank space where the device should be it turns the device on/off. The device button reappears about 1/2 the time. And the round notifications at the top of the home app are too high up so cover the text of the room they're in. But only sometimes. what a complete mess.

I got rid of the first bullet by turning off Predictive in the Keyboard settings. It still floats off to the side, but it is minimized and just shows the “…Keyboard“ option and dictation. Not perfect but much better than the predictive suggestions popping up incessantly.

Not sure if this is intended or not but if you have an app in slide over , let’s say music or messages…..then at some point open those same apps in full screen randomly , they disappear completely from slide over. This was not the case in prior iOS versions. Wish there was a way to pin an app in slide over and keep it there when needed. Sometimes I open messages full screen. But I always want it in slide over as well .

Were iPhone apps supposed to open in landscape? I'm not seeing it here. It's annoying with the magic keyboard.

Edit:
My mistake. Some do, but other apps come up scaled to the screen - and those don't rotate - like Woot!

No tabs on Safari is better than the old version. iPad is 15 rocks.

I really, really dislike the new home screen/widgets. It seems like once again, rather than tailor ipad OS for the ipad, they’ve simply copied over an iPhone arrangement without thinking about it at all.

Because of the ridiculous app spacing that now kicks in on any page where you use widgets, I now have less widgets on view than before and less apps. I can swipe right for more widgets, but only in a fixed (portrait iphone style) column, again wasting acres of screen space on nothing. What a truly terrible update for the ipad.

you mean the new compact tab view? You know you can revert it back to iOS 14 style?

In settings -> Safari and change from Compact Tab Bar to Seperate Tab Bar:

If this is not what you meant, then you were a bit vague….

I can’t toggle between compact or separate tab bars. Stays on separate all the time. Also cannot get new mail sounds to work. Tried several different sounds but none work on new mail. All others sounds work OK.

SORRY DOUBLE POST

I am unable to switch between separate or compact toolbars. Also unable to get new mail arrived sounds. All others are fine though.

With the floating "seperate tab bar" it is just where it should not be, and "compat tab bar" is very difficult to navigate when you have +30 open tabs as I quite often do.

I've moved back to iPadOS 14.8, and will wait and see what will get fixed in 15.1...

Seperate tab bar is basically iOS 14 with a minor cosmetic design tweak. with both options, just swipe to scroll through the tabs, just like on iOS 14. It’s not really that different.
