Where? I tried for a while to trigger it snapping two windows side by side and had no luck. It doesn’t even have the edge snapping thing Mac has…
Which is crazy!! They touted it for years as a solid multitasking option. Now they basically removed that altogether, but let you manage custom window sizes. I don't want to manage custom window sizes...I just want to snap two apps together side by side! Either 50/50 or 75/25 like before!!

Does iPadOS 26 finally provide a desktop-class web rendering engine? I tried using an iPad Pro for work and found out that I couldn't due to the fact some websites simply won't render correctly as they do in desktop-class web browsers.

I've been waiting for a proper web browser since about iOS12 or so.

I was again very hopeful to use my iPad more like a secondary computer and downloaded the update the other night. Once the update was complete I jumped into Outlook to run through some emails. As I tried to drag and drop an email attachment into a OneDrive folder I was yet again disappointed when it would not allow me to do what I needed to do. I then tried to print an emailed receipt to PDF like iPad OS had allowed me to do in the past and it too didn't work (albeit I'm guessing that was just a bug).

Until I can truly work with files in a more MacOS streamlined feel, I suspect I'll never be satisfied with iPad OS. I get it, that's why I have a computer, but I'd sure like to just take my iPad out at home or open it on an airplane and be able to drag and drop files or have two or more file folders open at a time so that I can drag and drop files between them.

Until that day, my iPad Pro will continue to be a very expensive Goodnotes desk calendar and yellow pad for me.

I've tried it on my Mini 6 and it works well for certain tasks, like taking notes. Nothing that I couldn't do before with split screen apps, but it is functional. With an external monitor attached though it almost feels like working on a Mac.
That’s one of my favorite little features of my mini 6: connecting it to an external. Also using it as a second (or third) display for palettes or other things.

As far as multitasking, I agree. There def scenarios where it works well. Glad it’s an option.

That was supposed to have been added in either iOS 17 or 18, I can’t remember which. Regardless if you don’t have that on 18 I guess you’re not getting it any time soon, it does claim to be a Mac in the user agent in both 18 and 26.

The iPad "claiming to be a Mac"

prior to ipad 26, I really liked how i could just drag an app from the dock to put it on top of my current app, in a smaller window on the side.

Now, there seems to be no way to do that. I need to resize my current window down, and sometimes the app i drag from the dock will go into full screen, and then I need to resize THAT window… used to be so simple.

I wish in the “multitasking” options in settings, there was a third option that behaves how iPadOS 18 did. So there’d be three options: resizable floating windows (iPadOS 26), full screen apps (classic), and a third option that lets you do split screen and slide over (iPadOS 18).

Bring back Slide over! Additionally, multitasking on the iPad is inadequate, as we still cannot have one tab in Safari that can continuously stream data. Upon switching apps and returning to the same tab, the stream must be reloaded. and don't start me on this liquid ass design and all the bugs...

How long did you try it? 26 took longer than normal to settle down after the update but after about a day it feels faster and smoother than 18, even on old devices.
I let it sit untouched overnight. I did a fresh install of the os and restored my data from a Mac backup. I played around with it for a few hours the next fay.

I wish I could get this without Liquid Glass. I also wish it was a toggle to go into this “Mac Mode” of sorts so we could switch back to not wrangling windows when we don’t feel like it. Can be a bit annoying with touch controls at times. Mostly wanted this for when a mouse and keyboard are connected.

I am looking forward to getting iPadOS 26 installed to make use of the new multitasking features, but I will wait for at least the first round of bug fixes before doing so.

I read that in iPadOS 26 there’s a new feature called Flick Arranging: if you flick an app window quickly to the left or right, it should snap to that side of the display and you can stack multiple windows.

However, it doesn’t seem to work on my iPad Air M3. Am I missing something? Is this feature only available on certain iPad models?

Thanks!

iPads have got a major update this year. The Files app is much better but can improve more. Have not yet updated. Eager to try it out on my new 11" M4 iPad Pro.

I miss slide over
Funny, after all these years, I just started using split and slide over and it is gone. Otherwise I really like this new multi windows. I recently brought the magic key and it is really nice with it. I have the 2020 12.8” IPad Pro but not a M series. It will be nice when I upgrade to a M4+. I have to learn and get used to some of these gestures/shortcuts, I haven’t figured it all out yet.

I absolutely hated slide over so glad it's gone!

As a mostly desktop Mac user I welcome these new features in iPad OS as it feels so much more familiar having the functions I use every day right there on my iPad without having to learn funny jesters and swipes that are alien to a desktop Mac.

Contrary to there masses, I feel OS 26 is a great new OS. Don't get me wrong there are some funny glitches but as a .0 update it finally makes all our apple product more unified and easier to use. The new multitasking, traffic lights, preview and background tasks are huge upgrades for me rather than just the flashy GUI overhauls.

Why would you be glad it’s gone, considering it was an option? That’s strange. People who like it, and it seems there are many, have a point to complain because it was the only efficient option for quickly multitasking on the iPad for years. I think something more concerning for me is that Apple has shown they’re no longer in the game. They missed the AI hype, rushed this glass abomination of readability, and destroyed what was good on the iPad under the pretext of bringing a half-baked multitasking feature.
