iPad mini iPadOS External Drives on iPad Mini?

I have watched and read countless examples of people connecting various external hard drives and USB drives to the iPad Pro over USB-C with the new iPadOS Dev beta however I cannot find any information or any impressions of being able to do the same with the iPad Mini via using Apple's Lighting to USB/Lightning to SD/etc cable adapters that are were designed to connect cameras to iPads.

Are we able to do the same thing we are seeing done on the Pros using these camera adapter cords Apple has designed for the Mini (or the newer Air 3 assumingly)?

I have been searching far and wide and so far have found nothing....was hoping someone may have an answer.

I can confirm, yes, in iOS 12.
