when in mail is there a permanent way to hide the mailbox folders bit left hand side in iPadOS
use to be permanent in iOS12 if you clicked closed but now mail opens with it open at random times

Assuming you mean in landscape?

Do you mean hide the entire pane of mailboxes (to my knowledge this has never been possible) or do you mean keeping all folders nested and no in their expanded form?

yh I mean the pane in 12 once closed it never appeared open until you reopened it just seems to open now at random times

I close it using the circle bit but then 10 mins later say I go back in mail it’s open again

I don’t have this button/option at all. Seriously, this is making me crazy. I'm using an iPad Pro running 13.2.

IPP 11 running 13.2 - I can confirm I do not have that option in either light or dark mode for Mail.
Where @dazlicous has an option, my screen has a blank spot. :(

Now interestingly I have an IPP 12.9 G2 that is running 13.2 b4 and it has the option.
this is nuts.

Going to play with the 11 and see if there is something missing / unchecked / WTFK? ...

Mystery solved and bummer for 10.5” users.

BTW, what an absolutely IDIOTIC design choice to give those with the BIGGER screen the choice to hide the mailboxes but leave those with the SMALLER screens with smaller, more cramped UI.

What are Apple’s software engineers smoking?

It is an additional column on the 12.9" iPad. So you can have 3 columns that you can "hide" down to 2 to match the same design as the other iPads.

my issue is now in iPadOS if you hide this 3rd pane it comes back at random times dunno why it never used to in iOS 12 unless you force close Mail

I understand your problem and I am having the same issue. Its annoying.

I was trying to explain the difference to the other poster about the extra column that they won’t have on their 105” IPP
