Does your iPad or iPhone pick up any fridge odors or do you use baking soda to control this. That would be my worry but i am going to try it tonight!

How do you hear your phone ring in the icebox?

It only has to be in there for like 5 minutes. Video how-to's are all over YouTube.

That's not an iPhone. :)

It doesn't matter- it's tech. It doesn't matter whether it's an iPhone, an iPad and iPod touch... the colder the better.

And this? You get cold drinks, you get cold phones.

how small of a thing can someone be concerned about

You don't want to know.

No source was forth coming. It's a rather new trend. Next time you go to Best Buy, I'd just touch it while I'm there.

Of course all the tablets from last year is not relevant anymore.

I like to put my iPhone in a ZipLoc bag and bury it in hot sand. So much better hot.

Come to think of it, a warm phone setting in the winter would be... kinda cool. Of course that's preposterous.

But you never know...

...so are you saying that Best Buy refrigerates their tablets? I worked for Best Buy, and I can tell you that tablet refrigeration units do not exist in our store.

What I was saying is- in the next quote.

So, your claim that Acer was doing something to take that precaution is nothing but make-believe?

The fridge thing is just something that some of us do, for now.

Yes, I'm sure now. It was Acer: Something about them making their tablet no-slip, with a cooler temperature backing.

But the material that the iPad and iPhone is made out of, is good material. It's not plastic (it slips). Glass and metal.

If you're sure, it shouldn't be too hard for you to find a link to said claim.

Well, the thing about Acer is that they don't market their products well. I went to the website, they barely have anything to say about the tablet. I think they're closing up shop.

They need to.

But enough about that.

What are your thoughts on the temperature of the front of the iPad?

Maybe it's because I have sweaty hands. But it's almost like: if the device is cold, that it turns off the sweating.

It's so refreshing when you're exercising and you have a cold iPod touch to come back to.

Basically it just prevents sweating and allows for a better grip. You have to be open to new ideas.

There are new technologies coming down the pipe. And it all has to do with matters like this. You can actually start to feel games in the screen. A nail feels like a nail, sand paper feels like sandpaper, all on the touchscreen!

Apple has already patented tactile feedback- what if the iPad 3 has it??!?!

It's interesting with the newer "post-PC" devices that they are designed to not allow the user to do anything that would cause them to overheat to the point that they 1) become noisy 2) get hot to the touch (not nearly as much as MacBooks at least) 3) shut down due to overheating.

I think that's progress.

With Macs, you can run processes that are not contraindicated by the device's intended functionality and easily make the device too uncomfortably hot or noisy.

I'm really hoping Apple brings the silent/cool functioning part of the iPad over to the Mac and that if they find a way to make Macs slimmer they instead use that technology to allow for better cooling rather than slimmer products. A cooler Mac is sometimes a faster Mac, as well (in the cases where it would otherwise get so hot that it's throttled).

Cold backs. Add that to your list of things to look for when you're buying a tablet.

Obviously one of the first things to inspect when you're looking for a tablet are it's specs, but when I go shopping for tablets, I look for the ones with the cold backs.

Cold backs prevent your hands from slipping. iPads and other tabs tend to get warm.

warm > perspiration > slippage > broken iPad

Have we heard any plans on tablets with cold backs? What precautions have they taken to make the iPad some degree cooler?

i work in a premium reseller and when im helping a customer set their ipad up the backs on all of them are stone cold. the average temperature in the store room is about 18 degrees Celsius

That's true! iPads actually don't get that hot. I think the iPads already have cold backs.

But the first thing I check for in the showroom, is for the cold back.
