Apple seem to like the number 10. They've stayed at 10 (X) for their primary OS for a while now.

Final Cut Pro jumped from FCP7 to FCPX.

Just got a funny feeling Apple are gonna jump to the iPhone 10 next year and skip 7, 8 and 9, especially as iOS will be hitting version 10 as well. It's a perfect time to get their mobile ecosystem in sync.

    Thoughts?

This is Apple, not Microsoft. Jumping to X is not the same as 10. I think going to X kind of goes along with not expecting frequent new versions.

I think it's more likely that the number will be dropped in favour of a cleaner "iPhone" name with no Suffix at all except for the Plus model.
