I literally just got my phone yesterday and I put it in my pocket with ONE coin accidentally and upon pulling it out, I noticed quite a few scratches on the "camera bump" piece.

Keep in mind, this is not the actual camera that scratched, but that weird matte finished glass piece around it...

Is this normal? The scratches don't seem to come off no matter what I try to do.

If this phone scratches that easy, then I'm afraid to even set it on a ****ing table!!!

You need a case with raised edges for the camera bump. This has a been a known "issue" since iPhone 6.

If the front glass can get scratched, the rear glass is no different.

I’ve had every single iPhone since the iPhone 4/4s and I’ve NEVER noticed such an easily scratched camera bump, until I got this phone...

Maybe the frosted glass makes it more visible, but I don't think it's any more or less scratch resistant compared to previous generations.

My point in saying that, “I’ve never noticed such an easily scratched camera bump,” is that the glass around the camera on the iPhone 11 is softer than cheap plastic and that doesn’t make sense for a $750 phone...

I’ve also noticed that trying to wipe off the scratches has made some more noticeable scratches.......

I'd report your frustrations to Apple. Most likely will not get you very far, but hey...

Is the glass itself scratching, or the metal around it?

I have an Otter + Pop Symmetry Series Case on my iPhone 11 Pro and due to the giant opening on case to accommodate the three camera lenses, I do feel they are particularly exposed.

It’s that matte finished glass around the camera that is scratching, now the metal around the camera itself. I can post a picture if you need.

I put arrows where there are scratches on the glass, some of those white specks are just dust, but I pointed to the spots that are actually scratches that I cannot seem to wipe off.

I use my iPhone 11 pro Max frequently without a case. I have no marks on my camera bump.

I have a small scratch on the silver ring around one of the camera lenses. I have the silver iPhone 11 Pro Max, but there aren't any scratches on the exposed camera glass yet.

I feel that sentiment too... I did something similar, put the milanese watchband that came with my S4 SS watch in my pocket, and where the magnet is, scratched badly, I've had generic milanese bands before, and those things never scratched!

Specifically, if this was the black Milanese loop, that includes the DLC coating, which definitely will scratch your Apple Watch. That specific band collapses very easily, and you don’t want to let it come in contact with a display/casing. But the regular 316 L stainless Milanese loop also can scratch the casing, but it would be a little bit more difficult to do so on a sapphire display.

In order to give the glass more drop resistance the glass is made softer thereby making it more susceptible to scratches. Put a good case on as well as a good screen protector on
And you should be good. But keep in mind a little extra care won’t hurt 😞

Same here just noticed one yesterday, today another one. Both on the ring around the actual lens. I baby all of my phones had the X and XS Max never had any issues. Literally was at home all day sitting at the night stand, couch and in my sweat pants without anything in it. Not very durable.

I have had mine for a few months and no visible scratches around the camera. Maybe because it’s harder to see since I have light green? Or maybe because my lander case is super protective.

is this that i have circled a mini scratch or a spec of dust under the glass? i have cleaned it lot of times but nothing and i can see it only under very very bright lamp...

It's called normal wear and tear. Literally nothing is out of the ordinary here. I'm not sure why everyone in this sub expects everything people carry with them every day to be completely scratch free.
