Yep. It’ll have iOS 19 and then another 3 years of security updates and app support. It’ll be a viable device until late 2028.

For your note, that’s the 6S/SE finally starting to become obsolete as iOS 15 is getting ditched by numerous banking apps by late 2024. 8-9 years of solid support is still amazing though and massively consumer friendly from Apple.
I wouldn’t call it massively consumer friendly.

Selling phones for the price of their laptops i expect them to last just as long

Laptops and smartphones are two different things. Depending on the usage, a laptop could last 10 years. Unreasonable to have a smartphone working for 10 years.

Most phones don’t really survive more than 3-4 years before they’re broken so 9 years of support is pretty consumer friendly, in my opinion. I am still using a 6S, which I purchased in early 2016, as a secondary device. It can do pretty much anything my 13 can.

Right, but most phones also don’t cost $1000+

I am totally fine paying more and have longer life.

I was just stating that I expect that from apple. If they would drop software support after 3 years I would buy android and safe my money

That’s the expectation now given the inflated prices we’ve seen since the iPhone X however the 6S was £599 on release and the OGSE was £399. They are both usable today despite being released in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

I consider that very good value.

A lot of Android phones , costing more than $1000, didn’t have more than 3 years support until quite recently

Being generic about "Android", the various iterations may have better or worse practices in terms of updates, but I never saw it as predictable across the board, and I don`t really picture it consistent even within brands.

With Apple there is a reasonable expectancy for when, how often and for how long, which also make it easier to pass on your own or purchase preowned. Buy a preowned iPhone, and you`ll have a fairly decent idea annual costs of ownership.

That was my point.
