Downloaded neuralcam on my 11PROMAX (Lol) and will post some comparisons later between that and stock nightmode.

Ok now two pictures, first is with the iPhone 11 pro max neuralcam app, second one on same phone but stock camera app.

One benefit by using neuralcam app is that it just gave support for ultrawide nightmode which isn't possible on stock camera. That is only for newer iPhones.

I think that support for the front facing camera and the ultra wide camera on the 11 Pro are the only two reasons to use NeuralCam on an 11 Pro, but it isn't because NC is better, it's because NM doesn't support either of them at all at this time.

Use neuralcam for front facing cam and ultra wide lens. 11 pro stock night cam for the other 2 lenses.

I'm not sure I understand the kind of comparison you're looking for.

If you compare Night Mode with NeuralCam even on the same phone Night Mode looks to produce best results, so comparing NeuralCam on a older phone doesn't sound like a meaningful comparison.

Maybe you want to compare the raw noise levels of the new sensors compared to the previous gens?

Personally I am interested in whether I can get an iPhone XR and also get equivalent night mode by using NeuralCam (vs. shelling out an extra $100 for the one feature that I think the XR is missing).

Looking at the sample images here, I am guessing I can't. Night mode is much better than NeuralCam.

YOU apparently don’t understand how night mode works so why don’t you look up the difference between just using a slow shutter and night mode.

You would not believe how many posts I've seen that said "You don't need an iPhone 11, you can just use apps for night mode."

You get a lot more than just night mode for an extra $100 with the iPhone 11

Night mode is definitely better than NeuralCam but I expected the difference to be much greater.
These two pictures make me doubt whether I should upgrade from the XS.

Agreed. Definitely not worth it to upgrade only because of night mode.

After reading the latest replies I shot two more this morning (11 pro). The first one I posted was my very first pic taken with the new phone so now that I had it for a couple of months I have a better idea of how to compare the stock camera with cortex.
Besides the quality difference:
- stock camera app is faster so it's easier to avoid the subject moving (takes more or less 4x the time to expose with cortex in this case)
- stock camera deals with moving subjects much better

Not sure what more you could possibly be looking for.

The post above by Alfogator of the cat should pretty much answer the question about Neuralcam versus 11 Pro Night mode. Given both were shot on an 11 Pro, the output from Neuralcam is arguably the best “non-Night Mode” shot you will get on any iPhone model, past or present. So this is the best true test of Night Mode.

Given the 11 Pro Night Mode picture is superior to the Neuralcam picture of the cat, that should answer your question.

Now I do appreciate that you could do some further testing...wide and telephoto, different scenes and compositions, but I think it’s fairly safe to say the results will be consistent
Thanks for posting these pics. These show a huge difference.

Yea many times it is in the details the difference. If that doesn't matter too much, then I guess u can go just fine with older phone plus the app.

I got the iPhone 11 Pro after all. I did a comparison with the ultra wide lens so no night mode. NeuralCam makes an image brighter but it doesn’t improve the sharpness.

If I look at the full sized images then I don’t see any significant difference in sharpness and detail.

I’m not sure the two photos are representative of the Xs given they were taken with the 11 Pro Max. NeuralCam benefits from the improved data coming from the updated sensor.

Neuralcam went to a subscription model. The features I paid for are now behind the paywall. Really not cool for early adopters.
