With the XR and ultimately, the 11 - Apple has a very sound strategy right now. Great value, fair price, iOS lock in. That's the goal. The only challenge, and it may end up not meaning anything, is that customers like myself who tend to go for the high end are going to look towards the mid range soon enough. The differences are becoming less and less. Once they move to OLED this year, all that will likely be left is the camera difference. With cameras being so good, I don't think that is enough to sway me. Maybe that's where the rumors of the high end phone dropping the notch, but the others keeping it, come from.

Double digit could be anything from 10% to 99%. It’s amusing to state factual accurate information.

The article specifically states 18%...

While Chinese people probably prefer their own phones, much of the reason these days is because the budget phones are SO good that there’s really no reason for most people to splurge for an iPhone, especially considering people in China live in WeChat. Restrict Huawei and Oppo to only making >$600 phones and then see how much people like homegrown phones. :)

And on top of all that Apple is not trying to go budget anyway. They’re always going to primarily shoot to occupy the premium segment. These days they’re also trying to reach a little bit lower, but they’ll never compete with 3-400 dollar Huawei or Oppo phones, nor should they.

Is it really a shock that Huawei is doing great in China? I don't think it has anything to do with politics or national pride. I have a few friends that live in China and they tell me it just makes more sense to get a Huawei phone if they want a flagship device.

Huawei smartphones in terms of technology and appearance are comparable to Apple and Samsung plus most consumers favor phones made in their home country when it comes to the big 3.

Apple - United States

Samsung - South Korea

Huawei - China

Many consumers buy Huawei because it's the flagship brand with 5G. Unlike the U.S., 5G service has been available in 50 Chinese cities since last year. A $20 5G plan already offers 30GB. It's tougher to sell a 4G device under this environment. Apple won't be on equal footing until this fall.

Yet another example of macrumors being wrong claiming that no one will buy that phone with its "thick ugly bezel, and thick and heavy chassis."

Watch Apple pull a trick or two.

Maybe OLED in the midrange; and USB-C, ProMotion (90Hz), 5G, smaller notch and Apple Pencil support for the Pro models?
